We work with local municipalities, governmental agencies, development partners and residents on civil construction and excavation projects. We focus on road building, water, storm, sewer mainline installations, and sub-division construction. Since its establishment in 2004, Grizzly Excavating Ltd has become a major player in the Okanagan Valley civil construction industry.

We are currently looking for an experienced Red Seal Heavy-Duty Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on our large and diverse fleet. Our fleet is made up of excavators, backhoes, dump trucks, loaders, stone slingers, vac trucks, rollers, and other assorted small trucks and tools.

Responsibilities



Job Summary:



We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Red Seal Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy machinery and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical components, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring that our equipment operates efficiently and safely.

Major Job Tasks Include:



Perform mechanical duties ranging from routine preventative maintenance to repairing major breakdowns, including troubleshooting and diagnostics on heavy trucks, trailers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, and related civil construction equipment. Ensure all equipment is continually maintained efficiently and effectively, to the highest standards. Maintain and monitor inventory in the shop for filters, lubricants, and wear parts. Develop and implement maintenance plans in accordance with manufacturers specifications and guidelines. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, parts used, and hours worked on each piece of equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and warranty coverage. Communicate unforeseen or planned major repairs with the General Manager. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage. Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in maintenance procedures, tools, and techniques, and make recommendations for implementation. Promote equipment uptime and plan maintenance outside of operating hours where and when possible. Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and equipment operators to provide updates on maintenance activities, repair timelines, and equipment status. Ensure a safe, clean, and organized workshop. Keep maintenance reports and documentation. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Heavy Duty Mechanical Trade Certification - Red Seal Minimum 2 years of heavy-duty mechanical experience Experience performing comprehensive troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair for heavy trucks, trailers, excavators, loaders, skid steers and related civil construction equipment. General ability to carry out diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, as well as reading schematics. Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workload effectively in a fast-paced environment. Must be physically fit and able to work on vehicles with heavy duty tools and able to lift 50lbs Possess a valid class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract - Class 1-3 DL Preferred Have an understanding of computers and basic MS Office skills Thorough understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with a commitment to upholding safety standards in the workplace. Fabrication and welding experience is considered an asset. First Aid is considered an asset.
