We currently have an opening for a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician/Heavy Duty Mechanic with civil equipment experience to support a large civil earthworks project in Fort Saskatchewan, AB for our client Dow Chemical. This role work on site, five days per week. 10 hours per day Monday to Thursday and 8 hours on Friday. We start at 7:00 am.Compensation/Benefits

  • Weekly pay.
  • Can hire as a direct employee or as a *Direct Service Provider/Sub Contractor.
  • Competitive hourly wage. Negotiable, based on experience.
  • OT after eight hours per day.
  • 6% vacation and 4% stat holiday pay on all regular hours worked.

Dow Chemical Canada is taking initiatives to increase production capacity and reduce carbon emissions as part of its sustainability goals. In this context, Dow has initiated the FS PATH2ZERO Program to decarbonize and grow production ~3MM mta of low to zero carbon emissions C2 derivatives at its Fort Saskatchewan facilities in Canada. The overall program includes an ethylene plant, derivative plants (five world scale polyethylene units) and their associated decarbonization scope. These assets are targeted to startup in the latter half of 2027 for the Program Phase 1 and in 2029 for the Program Phase 2.This contract for OCL would be the early works and block grading preparation for the construction of the new units as highlighted below:
  • Civil Site prep for the multiple blocks (stripping/grading)
  • Final grading/aggregate and paving placement
  • Site improvement; stormwater ditching and pond upgrades, parking lot expansions
  • Railway crossings
  • Underground piping & utilities
  • Electrical tie in\'s, undergrounds and grounding
  • High mast lighting foundations and install
  • Minor concrete works
Key Responsibilities/Duties
  • Completion of preventative maintenance and servicing - Engine oil changes and oil sampling, track adjusting, lube & mechanical servicing.
  • Completion of varying component change out, diagnosing and repairs.
  • G.E.T work. Replacing ripper tips, ripper shanks, bucket teeth, inspecting cutting edges and reporting, measuring ice lugs and reporting.
  • Completion of LOTO, participation in tool boxes and ensuring the FLRA is completed at the beginning of every job and work is completed safely.
  • Complete equipment maintenance in line with OCL, client and industry standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Independent work environment, without direct supervision.
  • Ensure goals are met and communicate progress to supervisor.
Skill/Educational/Safety Requirements
  • Journey-certified Heavy Duty Mechanic/Interprovincial Red Seal Certification
  • Must have a JM HET Off Road Ticket.
  • Experience working on Caterpillar, John Deer, Volvo, HAMM equipment and Caterpillar service information systems.
  • Previous pipeline equipment repair experience.
  • Experience in field work.
  • Possess a driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and have a clean driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract.
  • WHMIS2015.
  • Crane and Rigging experience and training is an asset.
  • Positive attitude towards health and safety.
  • Strong independent work ethic.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Will need to complete several DOW online orientations prior to accessing the site.
