Coeur Mining, Inc. is a well-diversified growing precious metals producer with five operations in North America. Coeur’s wholly-owned operations include the Palmarejo silver-gold complex in Mexico, the Silvertip silver-zinc-lead mine in British Columbia, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska, and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. In addition, the Company owns the La Preciosa project in Mexico, a silver-gold exploration stage project. Coeur also conducts numerous exploration activities in North and South America. The Coeur Silvertip mine located in British Columbia, just 10 miles south of the Yukon border is seeking a Health, Safety & Emergency Response Coordinator to work in a camp-based environment rotating on a 2 week on and 2 weeks off schedule. The Health, Safety & Emergency Response Coordinator will report to the ERT & Safety Supervisor, within the Health, Safety and Training department. Job Duties:
  • Develop, implement and maintain programs, procedures and processes for the health and safety of staff;
  • Safety compliance to provincial and federal regulations;
  • Meeting the goals & objectives of the Company and the Health, Safety & Training Department.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safety policies and procedures and site rules pertaining to a Northern BC underground mining and ore processing operation;
  • Establish professional relationships to ensure compliance by all management, supervisors, and employees with British Columbia regulatory and company requirements as they relate to the safe and healthy operation of the mine site;
  • Support the department to maintain site emergency response capabilities, including delivery of training material and maintenance of emergency response equipment in accordance with a planned maintenance schedule;
  • Identify and anticipate health & safety concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational and occupational conditions; investigate violations & recommend evidence based preventative measures;
  • Conduct and create training and communication for management and staff using internal and external resources on health & safety;
  • Lead incident investigations identifying root causes and assisting in the development of meaningful corrective actions;
  • Strong and engaging presenter with exceptional communication, facilitation & training skills;
  • Analytical and strategic skills to identify best practice approaches to the design and implementation of health & safety programs and to contribute to the development and achievement of the Company’s objectives;
  • Performs tasks related to the Industrial Hygiene program including sampling and surveys as directed by the Occupational Health & Hygiene Advisor.
  • Work closely with the site ERT and Training teams to support and achieve department goals;
  • Lead employees and contractors and collaborate with peers and senior management;
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors & vendors.
  • Position Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety preferred or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience, plus additional safety certifications and training;
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation or equivalent
  • 5 + years of experience working in Health & Safety within the mining, construction or resource industries;
  • Mine Rescue Team member experience and certification (or ability to attain same);
  • Experience working in a camp environment;
  • Knowledge of B.C. governmental regulations as they relate to Health & Safety in a mining environment;
  • Ability and willingness to acquire further competencies in the Health & Safety field;
  • St Johns Level 1 First Aid Certification;
  • Valid driver's license (minimum provincial Class 5).
  • Preferred Additional Qualifications:
  • Surface or underground hard rock mining experience;
  • St Johns Level 3 First Aid Qualifications;
  • Certification and experience in Root Cause Analysis;
  • BC Mine Supervisor certificate (or ability to attain on joining);
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
