SCOPE:

The Health System Liaison will be responsible for outreach and relationship building with mainstream health organizations and providers across Ontario including but not limited to community-based clinics, hospitals, public health clinics, and medical offices. The Health System Liaison will promote ONWA\xe2\x80\x99s health projects, collect health-related data and community needs in regard to ONWA\xe2\x80\x99s training program, and the recruiting of training partners. Additionally, relationship building with indigenous communities across Ontario will be a priority for input and guidance through focus groups, outreach, and ceremony. The Health System Liaison will collect stories and support administrative functions related to health programs, access, and related issues, across Ontario. Reporting to the Community Development and Nurse Manager, the Health System Liaison is responsible for working with the health team to develop and implement the curriculum and training on addressing racism and discrimination in Canada\xe2\x80\x99s health system program and will also foster/promote cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity for health practitioners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A post-secondary diploma and/or certificate in health sciences and/or social services/indigenous studies ideally with 1-3 years of successful working experience working with health care agencies/ or in customer service a combination of education and lived experience will be considered.
  • Proven work experience and knowledge of the indigenous focus health issues and experience working with Indigenous populations and communities.
  • Knowledge of the mainstream hospital systems in Ontario with an existing network of contacts.
  • Knowledge and experience working with not-for-profit organizations.
  • Understanding of inclusivity and indigenous culture and protocols.
  • Must be dependable, and able to follow instructions.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office and competency working with databases.
  • Ability to speak and facilitate in front of large groups.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with emphasis on keen listening and the ability to effectively interpret verbal communications and the needs of the audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and manage time and presentation skills with the ability to follow through on assigned duties with strict deadlines.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Friendly and approachable personality.
  • Ability to navigate health systems build relationships with health-related businesses and advocate for those in need.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community members, Indigenous partner agencies, and mainstream agencies.
  • Strong awareness of issues affecting Indigenous women and their families and awareness of available community resources.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a face paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Proven ability to build trusting relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across the organization.
  • Reliable vehicle and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage with 2,000,000 liability and valid Ontario \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d class driver\'s license.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • A cellular phone is required within this position in addition to reliable internet
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working-from-home arrangement if required and travel across Ontario. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in-office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • The ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
