About the Opportunity
The Cancer Care Program is a population-based cancer control program responsible for the provision, monitoring and evaluation of services which span the continuum from primary prevention, through screening, diagnosis, treatment and care, to survivorship, and to palliative and end-of-life care. Given the growing burden of cancer on our population, a proactive, coordinated, and comprehensive cancer program that addresses the cancer demand but that also aims to reduce the burden of this disease is essential for our future. The goal is the provision of sustainable, effective and timely cancer control services across the continuum and across all age groups.
Due to the complexity of cancer care, not all cancer control services will fall under the Cancer Care Program. Therefore, there will be a need to function in a highly collaborative fashion so all sectors of the health system are engaged and involved. Therefore, the Cancer Care Program has links to the IWK and works closely with partners within the NSHA, primary care, specialized population-based services, specialized health care and community services, and government departments as required to provide safe, quality care in the most appropriate settings.
Reporting to the Director of Cancer Care Operations for Central Zone and working closely with the Cancer Care Provincial Medical and Administrative Directors, referring and receiving providers, and provider office administrative staff, the Manager, Central Intake is a key member of the Cancer Care Program. This position establishes, implements, and manages day to day operations of the NSH-wide multidisciplinary Central Intake team for Cancer Care. The NSH-wide Central Intake multidisciplinary team receives, reviews and routes oncology (medical, hematology, gynecology and radiation) referrals to the most appropriate provider utilizing validated current criteria. The manager is responsible for monitoring and reporting volumes, wait times and other key performance indicators.
The Manager adopts continuous quality improvement principles, innovation, and technological initiatives to advance Nova Scotia Health\'s commitment to enhance access to cancer care. The Manager facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with the current and proposed future state of Nova Scotia Health.
Working with the Cancer Care Program and other Clinical Networks, the Manager will support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, goals, and objectives to support and improve the delivery of health care services across the continuum.
