Health, Safety & Emergency Management Advisor!





This position will provide leadership, programs and initiatives that promote and support a healthy and safe learning and work environment to complement the University's strategic plan making the University a preferred place to study, work, and live.



What You'll Do:


Policy, Program, and Guideline Development

: Contributes to the creation of University-wide policies and programs promoting health, safety, and emergency preparedness by researching contemporary standards and best practices.

Program Implementation and Support

: Assesses university needs and collaborates with students, faculties, and departments to implement safety, environmental, and emergency planning programs.

Emergency Management and Continuity

: Manages emergency planning and business continuity efforts, engaging stakeholders and ensuring resources align with the University's emergency operations goals.

Health and Safety Expertise

: Provides guidance on health, safety, and emergency management policies, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation (federal, provincial, municipal).

Education and Training

: Develops and delivers educational seminars and workshops on statutory requirements, health and safety best practices, and legislation.

Hazard and Risk Assessments

: Conducts and reviews risk assessments, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented, and documents findings for follow-up actions.

Incident and Safety Investigation

: Investigates safety concerns and incidents, follows up with involved parties, and suggests corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Committee and Partnership Support

: Supports committees and partnerships, providing expertise and preparing information to facilitate provincial standards and joint problem-solving.

Position Requirements

What You'll Bring to this Position:

University degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related fields. Work experience and associated certifications may be considered in place of the degree requirement Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a post-secondary environment Specialized training in one or more of the functional areas (confined space entry, fall protection, personal protective equipment, fire safety, emergency management) A combination of education and experience may be considered.


Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:

Expertise in occupational health and safety legislation and regulations, emergency preparedness, and business continuity. Strong understanding of safety principles, trends, and innovations. Familiarity with post-secondary education environments is an asset. Ability to design, develop and implement policies, programs and initiatives in the field of health, safety, emergency management and business continuity. Ability to design and implement effective safety and emergency programs. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to balance stakeholder interests. Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and administrative abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases). Proactive and responsive to the needs of the University community. Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams. Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders
Physical Demands Pay Grade OOS 7 Salary Range $85,763-$128,647 Status Permanent Work Hours
8:15am - 4:30pm
