Your Opportunity:Working under the general supervision and guidance of the Supervisor, Data Collection/HIRM, this position is responsible for coding and abstracting clinical and demographic data accurately and efficiently from inpatient and/or ambulatory care electronic records. Essential functions of position: Review clinical documentation via electronic sources (Connect Care) Interpret clinical documentation and apply Canadian Coding Standards by accurately assigning diagnosis and intervention codes (ICD-10-CA and CCI) Apply CIHI DAD and NACRS abstracting rules and accurately enter information into the electronic abstracting system (PCAS). The Employee shall maintain confidentiality of all AHS information in accordance with HIA, FOIP, and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with AHS\'s information Privacy and Information Security policies. Employs effective communication skills, promoting, and adhering to excellent customer service in every interaction regardless of who it is with. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

Required Qualifications:Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 6 months recent coding experience Consideration may be given to a CCS who has not coded within last 2 years but has documented evidence of successful completion of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding classification refresher course from an approved HIM Program Consideration may be given to a graduate of a Health Information Management program recruited within 6 months of graduation Experience with electronic Health Information & abstracting systems (CC/PCAS, Netcare, 3M Encoder and Folio) Strong working knowledge of current classification systems (ICD-10-CA/CCI); coding test will be administered prior to the interview (70% pass required) Thorough knowledge of CIHI Coding Standards including application of diagnosis types, clusters, & prefixes Familiar with case mix & grouping methodology, CMG+, CACS, RIWs, & ELOS. Required knowledge of related legislation regarding access, privacy, & disclosure of patient information Proficient computer skills in a Windows and MS Office environment including excellent keyboarding skills Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy of information, organize, prioritize workload to meet established coding turnaround times, work effectively under pressure & show good judgement Team player with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, modeling behaviors that support & contribute positively to team operations & working relationships. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications:Ability to concentrate and sit for extended periods of time Ability to foster good communication with physicians and staff.
