Your Opportunity:Reporting to the Patient Care Manager (PCM) of the Edmonton Zone (EZ) Trauma Program, EZ Operative Services, Anesthesia and Centralized Programming, the Health Information Management Professional I (HIMP I) is responsible for accurately coding and abstracting trauma data as identified by the Alberta Trauma Registry, National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). This position is responsible for coding and abstracting clinical and demographic data from the patient health record for specific trauma patients, as well as supporting the EZ Trauma Program in providing a patient-focused, high quality health system for all trauma patients as required. Health Information Management Professionals must be able to work independently, be motivated to self-learn and have a keen attention to detail. HIM Professionals must recognize the importance of validity, accuracy and reliability of coded data and maintain a high standard of quality while giving attention to productivity so that mandated submission deadlines are met. Health Information Management Professionals must also ensure that protected health information remains private and confidential according to the Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and Alberta Health Services\' (AHS) Information and Privacy and Information Security policies.Description:As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, release of information and/or data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

Required Qualifications:Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Additional Required Qualifications:Familiarity with ICD-10-CA and CCI Folio product. Thorough knowledge of current Canadian Coding Standards for ICD-10-CA/CCI. Excellent knowledge and expertise of medical terminology, anatomy and disease process. Demonstrated knowledge and application of coding and abstracting skill. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Strong ability to maintain accuracy of information. Ability to work independently, prioritizes workload, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure and show good judgment. Ability to work well within a team environment & shared work spaces. Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time. Excellent English language skills in reading, writing, comprehension and oral communication. Candidates that meet the required qualifications must successfully pass the Edmonton Zone Trauma Data Analyst coding test with a passing grade of 80%. Successful candidate must take the Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS) course with successful completion within 6-8 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications:Two years recent experience in data collection. Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) coding. Familiarity with Provincial Acts including, but not limited to the Hospital Act, Health Information Act, and Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIP).
