The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Sports Rehabilitation and Performance, the Coach is a wellness practitioner who believes in treating athletes and community members based on their needs, goals and preferences. With a passion for health and wellbeing and an ease in engaging and motivating students to pursue a holistic approach to leading a healthy lifestyle; the incumbent is a key contributor to the ongoing development and coordination of our fitness, wellbeing and healthy-living programs for all students.

The Coach will work closely with our athletics and health centre teams to support and assess both athletes' and community members' (students and employees) conditions, establish plans for fitness and treatments, and track progress towards injury recovery, health, and fitness goals. The incumbent also works with faculty as they engage with students providing their expertise in a classroom setting.

The successful candidate will promote the use of the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC) Fitness Centre by coordinating programs, schedules, maintaining and ensuring safety and proper use of the equipment as well as planning facility activities, organizing special events and developing personalized training programs. As well, the Coach will maintain, organize and ensure the overall safety of the fitness centre as well as other facilities at the school including the athletic therapy room, gyms, and courts.

This is a full-time, permanent role that follows the academic calendar (September - June) working in the Fitness Centre and providing support in other areas of the school such as the Athletic and Wellness Centre as needed. The hours of this position are during school hours and could include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekend coverage.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in exercise science, kinesiology, human kinetics, athletic therapy or a related field as well as their Athletic Therapy Certification in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association (CATA). The Coach will also have their Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and their Concussion Management Certificate. In addition to a minimum of five years of experience working in a fitness facility, you will have experience as an athlete or a coach with administrative responsibilities. Previous strength and conditioning experience would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have experience in rehabilitation program development and coordination as well as the ability to recognize or assess the potential of a sport related injury.

The Coach will be a self-starter who is able to work both independently as well as part of a team to meet the needs of stakeholders including supporting client cases and providing care that is current and aligns with best practice. You are able to exercise good judgement and operate with tact and diplomacy when dealing with various clientele in a complex and ever-changing environment. You will also have a good understanding and technical proficiency with both Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace platforms. With superior professionalism and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, you have a holistic approach to health and well-being that is motivating and inspiring to a wide range of stakeholders who wish to access the facility including students, athletes, and employees.
