Health Data Analyst

The Health Data Analyst is responsible for providing support to the Foundational Standards team and work with the Population Health Assessment and Surveillance team to collect, retrieve, manage, analyze and report data, and communicate information to end users.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Communicate complex information clearly and credibly
Develop reports that address public health issues, and be aware of the potential impact of the information being communicated
Maintain up-to-date databases, design and create new databases as required, for epidemiological investigations, reports and projects, in compliance with Health Unit standards
Analyse and present information to inform program and service planning with population health and program-related databases such as Vital Statistics, Census, Healthy Babies Healthy Children, Panorama, Health Service Usage and iPHIS
Review literature on topics of relevance, including internet and database searches, synthesis of information and report writing
Develop community health profiles and health status reports to inform planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of public health programs and services.
Integrates information from diverse sources, which may involve large amounts of complex information
Use of data visualization techniques that enhance understanding of information while preserving the integrity, validity and reliability of the information.
Assist in the identification of technological enhancements to improve the collection, storage retrieval, analysis and assessment of data
Support and inform health unit activities through data collection, analysis and reporting
Systematic and ongoing collection, analysis and dissemination of health-related information
Analyse data and present information to meet the requirements of the Ontario Public Health Standards, including the Foundational Standard
Provide public health data analysis services in compliance with the Ontario Public Health Standards to assist program managers
Promote the values and beliefs of public health, other ethical frameworks and regulatory colleges or professional organizations
Represent Grey Bruce Public Health in all interactions in a manner which promotes the mission, values and standards of the organization
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
Understanding of the health of populations and the factors that underlie health and health risks.
Advanced assessment, analysis and problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of research methodology, statistics, survey design, tool development and database design
Commitment to a safe and healthy work environment for both employees and clients
Proven ability to work independently with competency and accuracy and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Ability to present data to meet the needs of various users
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Advanced skills and demonstrated experience using business computer applications including spreadsheets, graphical presentation software, statistical packages (including SPSS, SAS, R, or Stata),Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, online survey software and specialized programs (including Intellihealth)
Excellent written communication skills and demonstrated experience creating and editing technical documents and correspondence to communicate to professional audiences, policy makers, and general public
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - Training - Experience
Three-year (3) or four-year (4) Baccalaureate Degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Biostatistics, or in a public health related field preferably Epidemiology
Post-Graduate coursework in Health Sciences, Mathematics, Biostatics, Epidemiology or in a public health related field
Minimum one (1) year demonstrated experience in coordinating the collection and retrieval of health-related data including statistical compilation, interpretation, analysis and communication of health-related information to appropriate sources
Working knowledge of qualitative analysis and GIS mapping
Other:
Working hours will vary within a 35-hour paid work week; with evening and weekend work required
Work will be completed in general office setting and occasionally in community settings
A valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
Work is subject to periodic travel to various locations within Southern Ontario
The current wage scale for the position of Health Data Analyst $45.78 - $53.62 per hour.
