The HCA Clinical Instructor must understand Sprott Shaw\xe2\x80\x99s HCA and Community Support Worker Assisted Living Program goals and outcomes, the learning goals and outcomes for all clinical training, and the policies/procedures for each facility that the students will be attending during clinical training. Responsibilities
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality in dealing with clients/patients, students, peers and supervisors
- Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with others at various levels and organizations
- Identify resources which can contribute to problem-solving
- Set a professional example for students to follow
- Meet regularly with the campus HCA Lead Instructor/Director, keeping him/her informed of student progress and/or issues
- Act as a campus liaison for students and clinical site staff
- Serve as a \xe2\x80\x98resource\xe2\x80\x99 person for students
- Remain on-site at all times, keeping students and facility staff informed of whereabouts
- Monitor and mentor students, providing feedback during daily pre- and post-care conferences
- Develop and evaluate strategies for accomplishing clinical goals and outcomes
- Recognize and respond before situations become critical
- Use empathy and respect when dealing with students, peers, and supervisors
- Distribute and explain clinical packages (learning objectives, learning goals, assignments, etc.)
- Provide site orientations to students
- \xe2\x80\x8bMake arrangements with the facility for daily pre- and post-care conferences
- Provide clear and concise documentation files
- Prepare and review evaluations with students
- Ensure that all evaluations and documentations are completed and submitted to the campus
- Ensure all supplies and materials are available for the students
- Clinical experience preferred in the areas applicable to the experience: Multi-Level / Complex Care / Assisted Living / Home Support
- Understands Sprott Shaw Health Care Assistant / Community Support Worker Assisted Living Program goals and/or outcomes
- \xe2\x80\x8bUnderstands the learning goals and outcomes for all clinical training
- Understands the policy/procedures for each facility that students will be attending during clinical training
- Has current skills in the use of various equipment (i.e. Hoyer lifts, Medi-lifts, Arjo tubs, etc.) used at the clinical site(s)
- Computer literacy for completion of required documentation
- Caring and patient attitude towards student learning
- Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and
- Experience or orientation in home support and multi-level/complex care
- Proven knowledge of MS Office and/or database systems
