Under the direction of the Administration, the Alexander College Health and Wellness Counsellor is responsible for delivering counselling services to benefit the mental health and well-being of the students of Alexander College. The Health and Wellness counsellor works within the larger Division of Student Support to foster a culture of positivity and collaboration at Alexander College.
In accordance with the BCACC and its Ethical Code of Conduct, the Health and Wellness Counsellor provides confidential guidance and mental health counselling services on an appointment basis to students actively attending the college. The Counsellor will provide services in a confidential setting that allows students to express themselves and explore their personal, social and psychological issues without fear of judgment. Through the counselling process, the role supports students so they may gain a better awareness of their concerns and ways to cope with them. Working with the other members of the Health and Wellness Unit, the Counsellor will provide services at both the Burnaby and Vancouver campuses and must be able to travel between them.

WHO WE ARE:
Alexander College is a private post-secondary institution serving approximately 4,000 students every year. Students choose to study at Alexander College to complete their Associate or Arts or Science degree or take a variety of University Transfer courses. REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology (or a related field)
Registration with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC) or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC)
Minimum one-year experience working in the post-secondary or similar environment
Experience working with students preferred
Upon hire, must satisfactorily complete a criminal record check via the Criminal Records Review Program
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct clinical counselling sessions on an as-needed appointment basis for students
Formulate and implement treatment plans and maintain confidential student records
Identify students at risk and demonstrated experience assessing and appropriately responding to crisis situations
Plan, prepare and conduct group workshops on prevalent issues affecting domestic and international
Participate in Student Outreach activities including classroom visits to advertise services, and special events such as Orientation
Contribute to the development of procedures within the Health and Wellness unit
Work with staff from other divisions on creating and implementing new initiatives at the College
Assist with Institutional Effectiveness and other division reports and Accreditation needs, as required
