Head Instructor: Learn to Sail Program 2026

Dalhousie Yacht Club in St. Catharines is seeking CANSAIL certified Instructors for the DYC Learn to Sail school this summer. We are excited to be expanding our instructional program, having access to a fleet of Laser Picos, 420s, Bytes and Petrels.

We are looking for responsible, and motivated individuals with an ability to relate to children and youth. Successful candidates will be effective team players who act as role models for our young sailors, creating a positive learning experience and nurturing environment. We are currently looking for instructors for the following program levels: iCANSail, CANSail 1 / 2 and/or 3 / 4.

To be able to teach with us you must be a registered instructor in good standing with Sail Canada.

We welcome applicants who:

Are available to work throughout the summer (June weekends, July and August weekdays)

Are certified CANSail Instructors (or are in process for completion before July 1, 2026)

Are at least 16 years old, as of June 29, 2026

Have strong programming, leadership, and organizational skills

Enjoy working with children and youth. Previous experience working in a camp setting is an asset.;

Hold current First Aid, CPR certification & Boat Safety certification

Have a current Police Check - Vulnerable Sector Screening

Hold a Pleasure Craft Operators Card and have experience driving a motorboat

Hold a VHF ROC (M) radio license

Responsibilities include:

On-water and land-based instruction and evaluation of skills as outlined in the CANsail curriculum Working with the instructional team to provide a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment Responsible operation and care of sailboats, coach boats and the sail training area

Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

St. Catharines, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Licence/Certification:

Ontario Sailing certification/working on certification. (required)
