Head of Legal & Compliance (Bilingual: English - French)

Mississauga, ON/ Full-time (Hybrid)

Pay Range $155,000 - $200,000

Your responsibilities

Head of Legal & Compliance, Canada advises management on a wide range of legal issues relating to Company business, including regulatory and corporate compliance, corporate governance, dispute avoidance/management, policy development, resolution, and all aspects of commercial law.

This position serves as Canada Local Compliance Officer, also reviews, negotiates and drafts a wide variety of business growth-driving commercial contracts and vendor contracts with third parties. This position interacts with senior management, with all business units of the company, and with key external stakeholders. This role develops and implements cost-efficient regulatory and corporate compliance programs with minimal intrusion on the business to manage risk effectively while providing a competitive advantage for BSH.

  • Reviews, drafts and negotiates commercial agreements
  • Manages BSH Canada\xe2\x80\x99s regulatory and corporate compliance program, including designing and developing programs, policies, and practices to ensure that all business units comply with applicable regulatory requirements
  • Serves as regulatory subject matter expert, including in areas such as antitrust, data privacy, anti-money laundering, and anti-corruption
  • Designs and delivers compliance training programs and prepares and delivers compliance reports to senior management
  • Conducts and/or assists on compliance investigations.
  • Manages litigation matters with outside counsel as needed, from initial service of matter through settlement, including investigation, discovery, mediation, and trial. Determine course of action and determine potential liability for BSH and advise management of same
  • Is fluent in English and French
  • Manages insurance related claims and matters, including contracts, reporting and litigations
  • Advises management concerning Product safety matters and ensures appropriate communication with Health Canada
  • Administers local corporate governance activities, in alignment with BSH Group\xe2\x80\x99s governance requirements and objectives
  • Collaborates with legal and compliance colleagues throughout North America and internationally
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Your profile

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all client and business matters
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel
  • Ability to be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through on multiple projects
  • Ability to work in a collaborative teamwork environment and share information with the appropriate parties
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, and Outlook, and a demonstrable ability to learn any department specific software
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment
  • Must have an LL.B. or J.D. from a Canadian law school and be an active member in good standing in one or more provincial bars within Canada.
  • Domestic and some International Travel by car, airplane, boat, etc. - can include overnight and weekends
  • Travel Percentage - 10%
