Join Ta7lnew?a?s Education Department as the Head Language & Cultural Teacher. This role is foundational in strengthening the revitalization, transmission, and protection of S?wx?wu7mesh Language and Culture within our elementary school community. You will guide language planning, lead Squamish language instruction K-7, and support educators, families, elders and community partners, advancing the Nation's long-term goal of building towards Squamish immersion learning.
As the Language and Cultural Head Teacher, you will lead instructional delivery, provide language mentorship, coordinate cultural curriculum and resources, and support learning that is rooted in identity, belonging and land-based teachings. Your work directly contributes to cultural continuity, family connection, and a vibrant future grounded in S?wx?wu7mesh ways of being.
What You'll Do

Deliver Squamish language and cultural instruction for K-7 students.
Provide ongoing language instruction to families (2 sessions per week).
Assess and report on student language learning at school reporting periods.
Lead the planning and implementation of school-based language and cultural programming aligned with the school's immersion goals.
Collaborate with community knowledge holders, elders, interdepartmental partners, and external organizations to support place-based and experiential learning.
Support the creation and development of language resources, including translations, curriculum development, and teaching materials.
Mentor and support school staff in language learning and cultural competency.
Coordinate school-wide cultural activities and community engagement related to language revitalization.
Maintain inventory, cultural teaching resources, and supplies.
Participate in school team planning and contribute to the continuous growth of cultural programming.
What We're Looking For

Squamish Language proficiency.
Experience teaching K-12 students in language, cultural programming, or similar instruction-based roles.
Experience working with special needs and/or gifted learners is considered an asset.
Experience using MS Office and working with database systems.
Experience working within a First Nations learning environment strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with cultural humility and a positive leadership presence.
Organized, resourceful, emotionally grounded and able to hold space with integrity.
Able to facilitate learning in ways that uphold respect, identity, family connection, and community values.

Salary:
$75,000 - $112,500
Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning to the midpoint of the range. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable package that reflects the value an individual brings to the organization.
