Our Employees are the key to how our residents feel about their home\xe2\x80\xa6 you have the ability to be a part of influencing the lives of all those that reside in our environments and create a caring and compassionate environment.May be required to work some evenings or weekends.Reporting to the Resident Care Manager (RCM), the primary role of the LPN Supervisor is to work collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of quality resident care and excellence in nursing practice.The LPN Supervisor engages in quality improvement processes by working with others to identify and implement areas for improved service delivery and resident outcomes.The LPN Supervisor uses equipment and supplies according to established standards and processes.The LPN Supervisor protects their own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety and following all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated.The LPN Supervisor may be assigned Charge Nurse duties as required and/or scheduled, including: planning, scheduling, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities; ensuring a harmonious and collaborative work environment, responsible for floor/department or building (as required).The LPN Supervisor performs administrative and other general duties to ensure completion of activities. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Participating in Doctor\xe2\x80\x99s Rounds
  • Participating in Staff Development and Site/Organization Committees
  • Assisting in monitoring the competence of unregulated staff assigned to carry out care by delegating care duties to other members of the health care team (HCAs)
  • Providing leadership, mentoring, orientation and guidance to staff on day-to-day operations
Ensuring compliance and support of the Covenant Care Health and Safety Management SystemBalance numerous demands and conflicting prioritiesThis role collaborates with the health care team to manage and implement resident care plans and makes recommendations to change the plans as needed in accordance to site processes and procedures. Based on the resident\xe2\x80\x99s assessed needs, the LPN will implement interventions based on their scope of practice and Covenant Care practices.As the responsible person on duty, the LPN Supervisor assigns the HCA daily duties, break schedules, approves minor process changes, and is a mentor for any issues requiring conflict resolution.Educational Requirements
  • Diploma preparation or equivalent as assessed and determined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta
  • Active registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta required.
  • Basic Life Support and First Aide Certification required
  • Supportive Pathways certification an asset

  • Basic nursing care procedures
  • Strong communication skills utilizing a variety of modalities (e.g. verbal, written, active listening) and ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific resident/family, relay resident information to the most responsible health practitioner on and off-site, in a timely, concise, accurate manner, in order to facilitate treatment decisions.
  • The ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand fully is essential.
  • Assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in resident status.
  • Effectively uses information and communication technology to improve resident/family/community centered care.
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Complex reasoning skills reflective of level of education to make decisions in strenuous and changing environments by compiling information from multiple sources.
  • Demonstrates Covenant Care competencies when working with residents/families, staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Effectively uses technology to identify, define, manage and communicate information and knowledge that supports nursing practice.
  • Seeks and gives feedback to the care team to facilitate a collaborative approach to resident care.
  • Work within a team environment and effectively contribute to resident planning processes.
