Position Summary
Provide associates with the skills, tools, and ability to meet Company expectations, and provides timely follow-up and (if warranted) corrective action and strives to conduct the harvest to maximize quality and production, and to minimize bed damage that can occur as a result of harvesting.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. General Duties
Supervises the general conduct of all non-management harvesting staff, including Harvesters, Service People, Sorters and Lead Hands and ensures that pre-established facility operating procedures are properly followed by all personnel including procedures for food safety, employee safety, proper sanitation practices, harvesting equipment maintenance, etc.
Assists the Harvest Manager with his or her duties
Oversees safe operation of Axis Harvesting Machine
Ensures that mushrooms are harvested and delivered to the packaging room properly, efficiently, and with due care
Administers corrective action and/or discipline when warranted
Ensures that facility doors are kept closed at all times and prohibits entry to any unauthorized visitors into the facility unless accompanied by company personnel
Supports and participates in all company policies and programs including HACCP, Safety, and other operating procedures
Recommends new or modified "Standard Operating Procedures" as they may be required
Ensures that workers are adequately instructed and trained in safe work procedures.
Participates in daily farm walks with the Harvest Manager and Grower to assess growing rooms and orders
Participates in daily Harvest Supervisor meetings to communicate daily requirements and pick rates
Communicates any changes in daily orders received from Distribution to the Packaging department
Participates in training as required
2. Harvest Department Operations:
Plans, coordinates and organizes harvest department operations
Coordinates orders and packaging requirements to ensure customer requirements are met daily
Receives modifications to daily orders from Distribution/Packaging, communicates to Harvest department and ensures that any necessary supplies are changed
Oversees the quality, quantity and efficiency of the harvest
Works closely with the Grower, Packaging Manager and/or Packaging Supervisors to ensure accurate communication of daily requirements (what to harvest, quantity, quality, etc.) based on customer orders
Completes daily estimate and order planning
Supports Supervisors and Associates in meeting customer quality expectations through daily instructions and oversight
Oversees flow of supplies in hallways and ensures inventory is maintained
Achieves goals by establishing priorities, monitoring progress, efficient scheduling, and timely conflict resolution
3. Employee Relations and scheduling
Assists the Manager with the general conduct of all harvesting staff, including harvesters, harvest service and supervisors
Assists the Manager to issue corrective action and/or discipline when warranted with the assistance of Human Resources
Provides a working environment which promotes safety, well-being and dignity
Ensures completion of schedule and supports daily timecards (including corrections and reconciliations) in electronic time management system
Responsible for scheduling all harvest supervisors and associates in accordance with changing production volumes, ensuring proper allocation of work hours and monitoring overtime hours, in accordance with Company policies
Ensures staff are properly utilized to minimize overtime and ensure the fair and equitable assignment of hours of work amongst associates
Assists the Harvest Admin to monitor absenteeism and tardiness and works closely with Human Resources to promote good departmental attendance
Timely and accurate reporting of attendance issues to Human Resources and the recording of attendance as required by Human Resources and the Company attendance policy
Completes administrative paperwork for department staff (i.e. time off requests, switched days, etc.)Assists the Human Resources Department in building a focused team of trained employees
Promotes positive relations and communication between the harvesting employees and supervisors
Responsible for the continuous improvement of productivity, quality, safety, and attendance
Contributes to improving communication among and between farm employees, departments within the farms, between the Harvesting Department and the General Office, and between farms
3. Tools and Equipment
Monitors and assures the proper use of aprons, hairnets, knives, tags, gloves, and personal protective equipment
Assures the safe operating condition of harvesting equipment and reports unsafe or inadequate equipment to the maintenance department and, if necessary, removes it from service
4. Cleanliness
Assists the Farm Manager in maintaining a consistent and high level of cleanliness throughout the farms
Ensures compliance to Company policies forbidding glass and jewellery in production areas and wearing of hairnets and clean clothes, and the washing of hands
Administers corrective action and/or discipline when warranted
5. Quality Control
Ensures that mushrooms are harvested within packing room and customer specifications
Sets up Quality tables, white boards, scales, and required supplies in each room
Checks and records on control chart the quality (colour, size, stem length, dirt, disease, scaling, veil, etc.) and weight of the mushrooms that each harvester picks and, if the quality or weight is not correct, advises the harvester of the problem and ensures correction
Ensures that quality audits are being performed continuously and responds quickly when control limits are exceeded
Ensures the proper completion of production, quality, accident and other reports as required
6. Safety:
Adheres to the Safety Policies, including use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment
Reports all unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries and near misses to the supervisor immediately
Reports all incidents, injuries or near misses immediately to direct report or safety advocate
Cooperates in the Early & Safe Return to Work Program if an injury or medical illness requires accommodation
Cooperates in the Early and Safe Return to Work Program if an injury or medical illness requires accommodation.
Enforces health and safety requirements and corrects unsafe acts and conditions immediately
Identifies workers with problems that could affect safety at the worksite; follows up with interviews and referrals where necessary
Participates in all required health and safety education and training
7. Food Safety:
Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) as trained
8. Other Duties:
Facilitate improvement activities with other department managers and area supervisors
Provide meaningful recommendations for continual improvement or innovation
Performs any other duties that may be assigned as required
Qualifications and Experience:
Must be 16 years of age.
Must be eligible to work in Canada.
NO LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS - Fluent in written and verbal English preferred, other languages (Spanish) are an asset.
1. Education & Past Experiences
:
3 years of experience in mushrooms horticulture and/or agricultural field or 2 years experience as a in a supervisor, leader or equivalent.
Experience in mushroom, horticultural and/or agricultural field required.
Current knowledge of mushroom growing operations, grading standards, shipping and receiving routines and HACCP requirements.

Hours of Work:
5 to 6 days / week.
Approximately 30 to 60 hours per week / 8 to 14 hours per day.
Public holidays/weekends as scheduled.
Daily shift end times for associates vary based on production.

$24.00 to $29.28
