Create mechanical packaging solutions using industry standard tools to design, analyze and document electronic assemblies
Ability to analyze/interpret schematic drawings, mechanical drawings and understanding part tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, standard industry symbols and drawing conventions to a level where the information provided is sufficient to transfer to manufacturing
Experience in designing to requirements and standards that ensure compliance to environmental conditions like shock/vibration, moisture/dust ingress and electrical/magnetic susceptibility and emissions
Understanding of configuration/change management principles and their application in the product development life cycle.
Clear understanding and ability to manage/lead the work product reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) Process for design validation throughout the planning, development and maintenance stages of product development cycle.
Support the project team lead in the following areas:
Budget development
Schedule development
Contribute to monthly progress reports (% complete, ETC, scheduling updates and out of scope tasks
Development of work task estimates
Identification and resolution of potential risks related to budget, schedule and product costs
Support Production team during New Product Introduction (NPI) stages
Build parts BOMs and respond to obsolescence as required
Conduct and minute peer reviews of cable design output through project workflow
What you bring to the role
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Mechanical Technologist diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
Minimum of two years relevant work experience in design and production environment or a Master's degree and three years' design for extreme environments/marine environments
2+ years of PTC CREO and/or Dassault Solidworks CAD applications
Good knowledge of MS Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio.
Working knowledge of configuration management processes for engineering changes
Additional skills desired for the role
Experience in power and thermal analysis for electronic enclosures
Working knowledge of Design to Cost (DTC) and Design for Test/Manufacture (DFT/M)
Cable/interconnect design and specification experience
Resourceful/agreeable/extrovert to enable strong vendor liaison/customer communications
Production and results-oriented self-starter
