About the role
The role of the Hardware Engineer Associate is important in fulfilling the strategic roadmap goals of Lockheed Martin Canada Inc (Lockheed Martin). The candidate will work with the electrical engineering lead to interpret the electrical schematic, building system interconnect diagrams and cable drawings. As part of the Engineering team, the candidate will be directly involved in understanding customer requirements and applying best-in-class product solutions as they relate to cabling and interconnect design. These resultant products/systems will serve to maintain Lockheed Martin's robust position in the Naval market space.
The candidate should possess the following skills and experiences:

  • The design capability to develop cable/harness design solutions which meet specific design requirements
  • A working application knowledge of relevant interconnect design and fabrication standards
  • The ability to create power and system functional/block drawings and wiring diagrams
  • The ability to analyze/interpret schematic drawings, mechanical drawings and understanding part tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, standard industry symbols and drawing conventions to a level where the information provided is sufficient to construct the cable/harness or arrange the system
  • Support Production team during New Product Integration (NPI) stages
  • Create complex working cable drawings and interpret hardware design documents
  • Leverage a knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) issues as they pertain to cable design, bonding and grounding principles
  • knowledge of MIL-Spec circular connectors, backshells and other cable components
  • Maintain ongoing research of new materials/suppliers to strengthen supply chain
  • Build parts Bill Of Materials (BOMs) and respond to obsolescence as required
  • Conduct and minute peer reviews of cable design output through project workflow
  • Have a working knowledge of configuration management processes for engineering changes
  • Have experience in documenting designs in Electronic Computer Aided Design (ECAD), Microsoft Visio and Office software products.
What you bring to the role
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or an electrical technologist diploma from an accredited college, or equivalent
  • Develops preliminary and detailed layouts of medium to complex cables, harnesses and cable run sheets for system-level architecture connectivity.
  • Resourceful/agreeable to enable strong vendor liaison/customer communications
  • Production and results-oriented self-starter
  • Developing subject matter expert on cable assembly best practices
  • Provides conceptual design, drafting and/or technical support to project groups for new and existing equipment cables.
Additional skills desired for the role
  • Experience with Zuken Electrical Design Software
  • Environment requirements: Basic understanding of the principles of shock and vibration, thermal management and electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compliance management and how these environmental requirements are accommodated in product design
  • Design to cost: Understanding of design to cost principles to ensure early establishment of realistic cost objectives and then managing the key factors which design cost to meet the stated objectives
  • Design for manufacturability/assembly/test (including tolerance analysis) and product functionality: Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles to produce cost effective cable and harnesses which are optimized for manufacturing.
