Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE:





The Grain Logistics Assistant procures grain requirements for Rogers Foods and ensures timely and efficient delivery to the Chilliwack division, while maintaining continuity to ensure daily work priorities are completed.





RESPONSIBILITIES:



Co-ordinate rail and truck movement to maintain grain inventory levels and consistent grain quality while working closely with Grain Department. Create tickets for truck shipments and sends notices to carriers and suppliers. Create tickets for rail shipments, record and track movements from origin to Rogers Foods. Create and maintain delivery schedules for truck and rail deliveries for the grain department. Liaise with internal and external customers and carriers, providing excellent customer service. Execute and complete grain purchase contracts within contract terms. Create contracts for purchases and hedge in futures markets to lock in basis values. Assist with the daily reconciliation of the Rogers Foods grain position. Assist with the development of purchasing strategies to maximize margins. Assist with byproduct inventory tracking and update byproducts schedule as required. Recommend improvements in procedures and practices relating to the department. Assist with the weekly shipping schedule for byproducts, send notice to carriers and suppliers with schedules and update all records and send notifications when changes are made. Ensures by-products for both divisions are moved in an efficient and timely manner, to prevent a forced plant shutdown. Provide support to the Logistics By-Product Superintendent. Adjust work schedule to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) while performing job duties and tasks. Responsible for compliance with Canada Labour Occupational Health and Safety requirements and company safety standards.




REQUIREMENTS:



Grade 12 or equivalent. Knowledge and experience in purchasing, transportation and supply chain management. Ability to work both independently and with a team. Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Strong work ethic, with a high level of trust and integrity. Proven problem-solving skills, effective communication, time management and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt quickly to changing environments. Self-motivated, with above average interpersonal, communication & customer service skills. Ability to form and maintain internal and external working relationships. * Availability for work on weekends, holidays and call outs as required.
