Recruitment range: $62,800- $69,237 starting salary determined by the PEA

Performance range: starting salary to max of $81,662 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

The University of Victoria School of Nursing is a leader in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and research in partnership with different educational, community and practice organizations. The School offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) to prepare nurses to work with individuals, families, and communities, guided by health promotion principles. The BSN program is delivered through a collaborative partnership with colleges in British Columbia (Camosun College, College of the Rockies, and Selkirk College) and the Northwest Territories (Aurora College). The School of Nursing also offers two graduate degrees: a PhD in Nursing and the Master of Nursing Degree with four options: (Advanced Practice Leadership, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, and Double Degree in Nursing and Health Informatics).

The School is situated in the Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD), a multi-professional faculty with a commitment to the student experience of dynamic learning in extraordinarily rich practice and community setting for vital impact on health and social development.

This position reports directly to the Director, School of Nursing and works in collaboration with the School\'s Associate Directors and graduate program faculty leads. This position engages actively with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Graduate Admissions and Records, and various other departments across campus as required. This position is responsible for coordinating and supporting the development and implementation of sound administrative policies that support the educational and scholarship endeavors of the School of Nursing. This position serves as a team lead to the Graduate Education administrative team, specifically pertaining to graduate level student recruitment, admissions, advising, and progression. At times coverage in the same capacity at the undergraduate level may be required during absence/vacation of other advisor.

This position is an integral member on various School and Faculty level committees and teams and may be asked to assume the role of committee co-chair role when relevant to graduate programming. The position is responsible for providing faculty, staff, and students with coordination, guidance, and enactment of University and School level academic policy. This position oversees and coordinates, with other administrative staff, the academic calendar cycle changes throughout the calendar year for both the graduate and undergraduate programs

This position may be required to travel to various conferences as a representative of the School to promote Graduate Education, such as the Canadian Nurses Association Biennial Conference, Western Regional Canadian Nursing Student Association Conference, Providence Health Care Career Day, etc,.

Job Requirements

This position requires baccalaureate degree plus minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment and/or professional program including:
  • demonstrated leaderships skills including ability to make difficult decisions
  • exercise good judgment in relation to procedures, processes, complex regulations and policies involving students, faculty and staff
  • proven well developed organizational and time management skills to handle heavy workloads, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines
  • demonstrated public speaking and interpersonal communication skills
  • experience analyzing, problem solving and resolving complex academic and administrative issues
  • demonstrated thorough up-to-date knowledge of domestic and international education systems
  • extensive experience using a student records database (preferably Banner)
  • must be genuine, highly motivated, and service oriented
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge requirements include:
  • An understanding of UVic, HSD and School of Nursing undergraduate academic policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • An understanding of the responsibilities of various UVic departments (e.g. SAFA, Undergraduate Admissions and Records, University Systems, University Health Services);
  • Must have strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office and experience with databases;
  • An understanding of field education practices and policies;
  • An understanding of and commitment to Indigenous, de-colonizing, feminist, structural, and anti-oppressive perspectives in Nursing;
  • An understanding and commitment to equity and diversity;
Competency requirements include:

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders

  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment to support the goals of this office and the School\'s and University\'s Strategic Plan.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; ability to delegate and support
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel
Assets or Preferences:
Demonstrated technological abilities beyond a working knowledge of general office software, data management, interpretation and reporting tools, email tools and the internet (including social media), will be considered strong assets.
