About you and this role

The Government Affairs Leader drives the advocacy strategy for a specific province or area while providing superior advocacy to political officials to protect and advance Dow\'s enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior advocacy to political officials to protect and advance Dow\'s enterprise.
  • Enhance Dow\'s global reputation and provide appropriate negotiation or collaboration with NGO groups as part of a broad issue\xe2\x80\x99s management strategy.
  • Strengthen internal collaboration with key business leaders.
  • Execute provincial, federal, or regional advocacy positions and strategies on legislative, policy and political issues impacting Dow.
  • Serve as a contact for interfaces with elected government officials and policy advisors.
  • Establish and maintain a sophisticated municipal, provincial and federal political contact network to leverage for Dow\'s benefit.
  • Act as a proactive strategic agent on behalf of Dow\'s interests and help set the agenda and shape future events for government relations in assigned area(s).
  • Lobby government officials on legislation and regulations of business interest to Dow.
  • Aid in the submission of amendments and regulatory language in official legislative public comment periods.
  • Work with trade associations on advocacy issues, bill language, regulatory language, and regularly meets with officials from all political levels.
  • Engage employees on grassroots lobbying of issues at all levels and engage site leaders on advocacy opportunities in their regions.
  • Engage NGO organizations appropriately for successful resolution of issues that block our ability to maintain or grow our operations or sales as part of a broad, coordinated issues management strategy.
Government Affairs role specific to Canadian Operations

The individual will work directly with the Government Affairs Director- Canada, our Government Affairs Consultant in Ottawa, US based Government Affairs team, Canadian Leadership Team and the Canadian Public Affairs group. Specific duties with the government affairs space will consist of:
  • Track political trends at the municipal, Provincial, and federal level within Canada.
  • Develop strategic documents outlining political policy at all levels of government and its potential impact on Dow\xe2\x80\x99s operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials pertinent to Dow Canada\xe2\x80\x99s operations.
  • Oversee Dow\xe2\x80\x99s provincial lobbyist registry submissions.
  • Main point of contact for Statistic\xe2\x80\x99s Canada surveys.
  • Part of the GA team that interacts with elected and non-elected government officials in advancing Dow\xe2\x80\x99s policies and recommendations to legislation.
  • Represent Dow on numerous committees within trade associations and government committees.
  • Assist in the review and submission of government-based incentive programs at all levels of government.
  • Assist in the development of briefing document and \xe2\x80\x9cwhite papers\xe2\x80\x9d as required for executive meetings with government officials.
  • Fluency in both Canadian official languages (English and French) would be an asset.
  • Position will be located at Dow Canada\xe2\x80\x99s head office in Calgary, Alberta.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.
  • A minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally and meet all applicable requirements related to business travel (~15% annually) (e.g., as to immigration and visa rules, public-health mandates, airline rules, etc.) into and out of (and physical presence in) various countries worldwide.
  • A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.
