Position Overview
This analyst position will provide government affairs supporting Invenergy\xe2\x80\x99s Government Affairs and Regulatory efforts within Canada. Under the direction of management, the analyst will monitor, summarize and analyze key laws, regulations, government policies and proposed legislation at the Canadian federal and provincial level. The analyst will work directly with internal clients and external partners to provide insights that inform business and policy development strategies. An ideal candidate will have strong experience with working with partnerships at all levels of an organization and for building strong relationships both internally and externally (including industry associations, networks, government agencies, and regulators). The analyst will actively with the development and implementation of strategies and have a curiosity and an ability to quickly grasp and understand new concepts in a diverse range of sectors and changing government priorities.

Responsibilities


  • Assist management in developing government relations strategies for Canadian markets;

  • Prepare Canadian jurisdiction political/policy assessments for regions where Invenergy operates;

  • Read, summarize and track key legislation, policy, and other policy-related documents;

  • Consult across departments (and externally) to ensure company issues are addressed by policy recommendations;

  • Proactively monitor and report federal and provincial legislative and regulatory developments, and emerging trends, and other political or policy issues that may have implications for the company;

  • Develop a system for regular briefings of emerging Canadian issues to senior leadership;

  • Identify gaps in current systems, policies, and strategies and take actions to mitigate emerging issues;

  • Engage government and regulatory officials to address critical issues for the company;

  • Establish networks and relationships with key government officials who are responsible for policies, programs and regulations that impact or are relevant to the company;

  • Work with Business Development Teams to develop treatment and mitigations for Canadian issues; and

  • Assist with other special projects and tasks, as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying issues.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong research skills, ability to self-source supporting information, documentations, etc. through readily accessible platforms (online, databases, etc.).

  • Ability to distill complex material and concepts into easy-to-understand, succinct briefing notes

  • Sense of urgency, initiative, and attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable in a matrixed environment

  • Able to manage competing priorities and projects.

  • Able to utilize and leverage technology in order to perform responsibilities.

  • High-level of personal integrity, confidentially and professionalism.

  • Familiarity with the energy industry, power markets, development, and/or government affairs.

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.


Required Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA, political science, economics, international affairs.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint and operation of office equipment and communications tools (Skype for Business, Teams, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Public Policy, Masters of Public Administration

  • Bilingual (French)

  • Prior experience working for sustainability/renewable energy organization or governmental agency
