Working in a capacity as primary lead for comprehensive administrative, logistical, and governance support to CPSA Council and its Committees, the

Governance Specialist

will ensure that governance processes operate smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with CPSA bylaws and policies. In addition, this position will contribute to broader organizational governance and policy initiatives.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




Serve as the primary administrative lead supporting CPSA Council and its Committees. + Coordinate all logistics for Council and Committee meetings, including preparation of meeting packages, minute-taking, action item tracking, communication, travel and accommodation arrangements, IT support, honoraria and expense processing, and attendance tracking.
+ Provide ongoing logistical and administrative coordination for Committees of Council to ensure seamless operations.
+ Assist with onboarding and offboarding of Councillors and support the delivery of ongoing learning and development opportunities for Council members.
+ Support the execution of Council meetings in accordance with established bylaws, policies, and governance standards.
+ Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of Council decisions, actions, and governance documentation.
+ Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Council Chair, Council and Committee members, CPSA Leadership Team, government partners, and other internal and external partners.
+ Maintain organized and accurate partner records, including contact information, term dates, biographies, engagement preferences, and other governance-related details.
+ Coordinate and support administrative processes related to governance functions such as executive performance management, Council self-assessment, election/selection of Council and Committee members, and the selection of the Council Chair.
+ Maintain and update the Council and Committee SharePoint site and governance/policy web pages, ensuring materials are accurate, accessible, and current. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the usability and consistency of governance information.
+ Organize and support key governance events, including Council Orientation, Council Retreat, and ad hoc training or development sessions.
Execute on organizational governance and policy work, ensuring progress and timely delivery of commitments. + Conduct research, analysis, and drafting related to governance structures, organizational policy, and regulatory best practices.
+ Support the CPSA governance framework by coordinating and monitoring the policy quality assurance schedule to ensure timely and effective policy reviews.
+ Contribute to bylaw, policy, and process development activities, ensuring clarity, alignment, and organizational consistency.
+ Assess policies for relevance, currency, and alignment with CPSA's commitments to equity, anti-racism, and anti-discrimination.
+ Assist the Manager, Governance, in designing, implementing, and maintaining CPSA's governance and policy frameworks, ensuring clear communication and consistent application across departments.
+ Demonstrate initiative and accountability by independently managing assigned governance and policy projects from initiation through completion, identifying opportunities for improvement, and advancing work with minimal supervision.
In support of continuous quality improvement, review and make recommendations to update process or procedures within CPSA. Other duties as required.



QUALIFICATIONS




Required Minimum Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's degree or advanced certificate in an area of related specialization such as Business, Public Policy, Public Administration, Management or Governance
+ 4 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

+ Administrative support experience is strongly preferred
+ Strong business acumen with superior organizational and time management skills
+ Customer service experience is an asset
+ Training (education/certification) and practice experience in equity, racism, and discrimination
+ Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Microsoft Office 365 programs



SALARY



The annual salary for this position is $69,342 and includes a comprehensive benefits package and pension plan.

During the 90-day probationary period, the successful candidate will be required to work from CPSA's downtown Edmonton office. At the conclusion of a successful probationary period, a hybrid work arrangement may be considered.
