Job Description

As the GFC Coordinator, you will empower TMU students with access to food, education, and advocacy, while collaborating with local partners and driving exciting campaigns.

Who Are We:



The Good Food Centre (GFC) is a welcoming, student-focused resource operated by the Toronto Metropolitan Students' Union. Our mission is to ensure that every TMU student has reliable access to healthy, nutritious food while promoting equity and community engagement on campus. We offer a year-round food bank, provide education through recipes and blog posts, and connect students with local partners and supports. The GFC empowers students facing food insecurity by offering a membership program, fresh produce from our rooftop garden, and ongoing advocacy addressing student poverty. We're here to make food access and wellness a reality for all TMU students.

What You'll Do:



Lead Day-to-Day Operations:

Manage all aspects of the Good Food Centre, ensuring smooth, effective service for TMU students. Assists in the development of the budget for the Centre.

Advise on Policy:

Ensure Centre activities adhere to TMSU policies, and recommend policy improvements related to food insecurity, nutrition, and student poverty.

Build Community Partnerships:

Work closely with organizations such as Daily Bread Food Bank, creating robust networks for resource sharing and advocacy.

Support, Hiring & Training:

In conjunction with the management, participate in the hiring and training of part-time employees and volunteers involved in the Centre. Supervise all coordinators at the Centre and serve as the primary point of contact.

Empower Students:

Oversee the GFC membership program, helping students access nutritious food, recipes, and educational content.

Drive Fundraising Events:

Organize and lead food and monetary drives, and other fundraising activities throughout the year to support the Centre's programs and services.

Promotional Activities:

Develop promotional materials and social media campaigns to raise awareness about food insecurity and encourage participation in fundraising efforts.

Manage Records & Reporting:

Maintain up-to-date intake forms, provide management with activity reports, and monitor program participation.

Utilize Urban Agriculture:

Incorporate fresh produce from our rooftop garden into the Centre's offerings.

Education, Training, Skills & Experience



The ideal candidate will have:

Education:

Postsecondary degree or diploma in Social Work, Community Development, Nutrition, Education, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years coordinating programs or services in a non-profit, community, or student environment.

Skills:



o Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

o Proven ability to lead and motivate volunteers and teams.

o Strong written and verbal communication for outreach, reporting, and student engagement.

o Comfortable with data management and basic reporting.

o Knowledge of food insecurity, poverty issues, and student advocacy.

Hours/Week:

Full-time, 40 hours/week, unionized position (CUPE)

Location:

Hybrid, with the schedule to be coordinated with TMSU management.
