You will:



Plan, develop and lead the maintenance and operation of the golf course by establishing and implementing a maintenance program for the course, assisting in the preparation of the annual capital and operating budgets, providing direction to the course mechanic, maintaining statistical data regarding all aspects of course maintenance, and spraying pesticides in accordance with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocol, Complete mandatory IPM audits. Plan, schedule and monitor work activities of staff, as well as hire, train and identify performance issues for seasonal staff and students. Coordinate the maintenance and use of the drainage and irrigation system. Develop and implement a tree management program. Direct and coordinate course-related construction projects (greens, tees, sand traps, etc.) Ensure workers take precautions to protect the health and safety of themselves and others. Assume responsibility of the site and its operation in the manager's absence. Embody the SLPC's equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

Mandatory requirements




MANDATORY:

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) certification. Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's licence to pick up supplies, transport equipment and attend off-site training, conferences and industry activities. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when required Assist other business units during peak periods and special events, as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE




You have:

Knowledge in all phases of golf course and turf management to ensure optimal course conditions. Knowledge of specialized golf course mowing equipment such as reel mowers, aerators, sprayers, vertical mowers, etc. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations that apply to the work, and knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health and safety in the workplace to ensure compliance when performing supervisory responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND JUDGMENT SKILLS




You have:

Demonstrated supervisory experience in assigning work, motivating staff and evaluating work performance of staff. Knowledge of project management to estimate materials, staffing requirements and equipment costs for various programs and projects. Sound judgment to assess program needs and make recommendations that will impact the effectiveness of the golf course operating plan and the reputation of the organization.

COMMUNICATION AND COMPUTER SKILLS




You have:

Excellent oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with internal and external stakeholders, prepare proposals and reports, and promote the use of the facility. Demonstrated ability in the operation of a computer system and related software to maintain budgets, maintenance records, statistics, proposals, etc.
