HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF CANCER CARE IN CANADA

The Canadian Cancer Society works tirelessly to save and improve lives. We raise funds to fuel the brightest minds in cancer research. We provide a compassionate support system for all those affected by all type of cancer, across Canada. Together with patients, supporters, donors and volunteers, we work to create a healthier future for everyone. Because to take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society.

MAKING AN IMPACT

The Lundin Cancer Fund (LCF) and the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) have launched a unique, community-informed initiative to build a more connected, adaptive glioblastoma (GBM) research ecosystem in Canada. Through this exciting partnership, we seek to develop a program that fosters a collaborative, responsive and high-impact community that can produce breakthroughs in our understanding of GBM and accelerate the potential for better outcomes.

The Lundin-CCS GBM Research Initiative ('the GBM Research Initiative') seeks a passionate individual with strategic vision, GBM research expertise and a collaborative mindset to serve as the Lead for this innovative program. Reporting to the VP, Research Programs, the Lead will play a central role in shaping and implementing the overall Initiative strategy and its operational activities, advancing GBM research excellence, and facilitating infrastructure that will accelerate and ultimately transform progress in GBM across Canada and beyond.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

:

Develop and implement the GBM Research Initiative strategic and operational priorities

Establish and support an Advisory Committee for the GBM Research Initiative in collaboration with Lundin and CCS leaders. Establish the strategic direction of the GBM Research Initiative in collaboration with Lundin and CCS leaders and Advisory Committee. Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships across the GBM landscape that maximize the impact and reach of the GBM Research Initiative. Communicate and collaborate with the scientific community, people with lived and living experience, funders and other partners to seek input and gain support for the GBM Research Initiative, ensuring existing knowledge, infrastructure and resources are not re-created but are leveraged for maximum impact. Co-develop Terms of Reference/Code of Conduct for the Advisory Committee and other participants interested in taking part in GBM Research Initiative activities. Create a 5-yr operating plan, budget and associated activities. Direct and manage the budget and operating plan, ensuring continuous assessment of operations and associated activities. Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and results to Lundin and CCS leaders and GBM Research Initiative partners to maintain transparency and accountability and seek input.

Advance GBM research excellence

Lead the development and implementation of iterative and flexible research funding strategies that are responsive to identified needs, in collaboration with GBM Research Initiative stakeholders and the CCS research team. Support the development of forums (both virtual and in-person) to support knowledge sharing and cross-disciplinary research collaboration. Identify opportunities to leverage and expand research funding support for GBM across Canada, including supporting applications to relevant (external) funding opportunities. Champion open science approaches across the GBM Research Initiative. Integrate training, mentorship, and recruitment of early-career researchers (ECRs) into program activities, building capacity for future leadership in the field. Work in partnership with colleagues to advance GBM research excellence across Canada and internationally, proactively identifying and pursuing relevant opportunities.

Facilitate infrastructure support across the GBM research ecosystem

Lead the development and implementation of a national GBM patient registry, seeking out existing frameworks and learnings, and identifying opportunities to leverage them. Create a framework for research collaboration (a 'Research Collaborative'), engaging individuals involved in or interested in GBM across institutions, disciplines, and sectors. Develop and implement an accessible inventory of tools, datasets, and shared resources, including co-developed/shared documents (e.g. templates, agreements) to support more effective collaboration. Coordinate with research and clinical stakeholders, people with lived and living experience, institutional partners, funding agencies, and collaborators to support awareness and sustainability of the GBM Research Initiative. Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.
