GIS Technician (Canada Summer Jobs - Affordable360)
Location: Hybrid (Primarily Remote, In-Person 1x/Week in Toronto)
About Affordable360: Affordable360 is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting community housing providers navigate the pre-construction phase of building more homes through education, advisory, and software services. Our mission is to empower non-profits, municipalities, and affordable housing developers with the tools and knowledge they need to bring housing projects to life efficiently and effectively.
We are seeking a GIS Technician to join our team as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program . This role is ideal for a recent graduate or a student looking to apply their geospatial skills to meaningful work in affordable housing.
Eligibility for Canada Summer Jobs Applicants:
• Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
• Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection under Canadian law.
• Must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

What We Are Looking For: Our focus is to expand our geographic data coverage and support affordable housing organizations with accurate, high-quality spatial analysis. We are looking for a GIS Technician who is passionate about geospatial data, real estate, urban planning, and affordable housing development.
Responsibilities
• Edit and manipulate geographic data using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and Adobe Suite (Illustrator).
• Utilize open data sources and in-house data extraction techniques to process and enhance geospatial data.
• Edit and prepare data for GIS web applications such as GeoServer or ArcGIS Online.
• Work collaboratively to update and create new datasets supporting affordable housing projects.
• Manage and store data following best practices, including extraction, maintenance, and cloud-based data uploads.
• Conduct quality assurance and data validation with strong attention to detail.
• Assist with spatial analysis and mapping for housing feasibility studies.
• Support research on zoning, land use, and housing policy as they relate to GIS applications.
Qualifications
• College or university degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field.
• Current Student in 3rd or 4th year, Recent graduate or 1-2 years of experience using ESRI and Adobe software in a professional or academic setting.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and Adobe Illustrator.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and follow structured data management practices.
• Experience with PostGIS/PostgreSQL and SQL is considered an asset.
• Passion for affordable housing and community development is highly valued.
• Strong interest in maps, geospatial data, and housing policy.
