Our Engineering and Public Works Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi-disciplinary team as a full-time GIS Technician 2. In this role, the successful candidate will provide essential GIS support services as they relate primarily to the day-to-day functions and responsibilities of the department. This includes supporting municipal departments with mapping, data analysis, and utilizing online/web-based GIS technologies such as Webmap.
The position involves researching, compiling, analyzing, and editing spatial data, preparing maps, conducting spatial analyses, and ensuring the accuracy of our GIS database through quality assurance and quality control processes. Additionally, the GIS Technician 2 is responsible for developing program code and applications to update the City's Webmap, updating spatial data according to bylaw amendments, and responding to public inquiries.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a thorough understanding of GIS principles, municipal engineering, and planning processes. Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS software (Desktop and Server), Geocortex Essentials, Autodesk Civil 3D, and other relevant software is required. Strong analytical skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion are essential.
A successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 and holds a certificate or diploma in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Experience with CAD system drafting, survey technology, and at least one year of experience in GIS and drafting, particularly with ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD, is required. Applicants must also hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
Additional Information
The January 1, 2025 hourly rate of pay for this CUPE position is $46.01 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan. You will work a 9-day fortnight schedule, which consists of Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with extended hours on nine consecutive days, and then receive every tenth day off.
