About the Role:

Our Basmaps team processes vast quantities of multi-sensor satellite image data into beautiful, visual products, mainly mosaics that provide scientifically useful, analytical, mapping and actionable information. The group is responsible for processing a variety of imagery datasets and converting them onto customer defined basemaps, through a multitude of intermediate steps involving geometric and radiometric rectification . The work of the Basemaps team is performed at scale and constantly requires upgradation of tools and workflows. This position is geared towards such needs and would be a great experience for an engineer who has experience with image processing code at scale.

Impact You'll Own:

• Develop new image processing tools and scripts to build mosaic products
• Research and development for automation and/or increased production
• Maintenance and support for existing applications
• Troubleshoot code related issues
• Assist Basemaps team with mosaic projects

What You Bring:

• 3+ years of experience writing software to manipulate image data
• Extensive knowledge of GDAL and other open-source GIS tools
• Experience writing production/image processing code in Python
• Experience working with Geomatics software such as ESRI ArcGIS, PCI Geomatica
• Understanding of image processing in Adobe Photoshop
• Understanding of Mapserver, Geo server, TileCache server, Linux and Windows OS
• A passion for Programming, Photography, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences, and Geography

What Makes You Stand Out:

• Experience writing production code in Python, PCI EASI
• Experience with existing and evolving standards for processing geospatial data
• Solid background in Remote Sensing, GIS, Photogrammetry and image processing
• Knowledge of open source technologies for disseminating geospatial data

Compensation (only applicable for Colorado applicants):

The base pay range targeted for this position in Colorado is: $93,600 - $156,600. This role is eligible for equity.

The actual offer, including the compensation package, is determined based on multiple factors, including experience, location, and other business considerations.

Planet is registered as an employer in many, but not all, states. If you are not able to work from a state where Planet is registered, you will not be eligible for employment.
