The Opportunity
RVS invites applications for a
full-time (35 hrs/wk) Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst
position starting
January 5, 2026
. Reporting to the Manager of Planning & Capital Projects, the GIS Analyst is responsible for the creation, acquisition, and maintenance of all relevant data necessary for the support of data driven decision making for RVS. This includes but not limited to Planning, Transportation, Maintenance, Information Technology Services, Communications and Engagement, and Schools. This position is located at the Education Centre in Airdrie, Alberta.
Responsibilities Include
Lead process development and procedures for the management of geographic data and reporting products
Create maps, tables, charts, and other media to communicate results, support public engagement and student accommodation sessions as required
Produce Division wide large-format, Education Centre, and Transportation maps as required
Geo-code student addresses for Student Transportation and Planning purposes
Review and interpret legal land descriptions, including Plan Block Lot and Alberta Township Systems, to accurately define and maintain boundaries of schools and the Division
Update maps to match the municipal development
Develop and maintain time-series data for students' residence and enrolment as well as school's status, programming, capacity and utilization, including area-based summaries of time-series data
Develop and maintain web maps and web-mapping applications for sharing data and insights
Obtain necessary data and provide maps and data analysis to address project requirements
Support preparation of short and long-term division plans
Develop and maintain tools to streamline data management, manipulation, and analysis
Act as point of contact with other Municipalities or School Divisions so as to acquire and build on necessary spatial data including but not limited to road centerlines, address points, developmental trends, and municipal boundaries
Recommend improvements to Divisional Processes including integration/collaboration of GIS with other departments
Demonstrates and models a genuine appreciation for, and understanding of, protocol, discretion, and professionalism in RVS
Embraces and models the use of contemporary and emerging technologies within RVS
Engages in professional development on an ongoing basis
Knowledge and Skills
Strong technical skills including demonstrated experience in ArcGIS or other GIS system
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and attention to detail
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
Working knowledge of Auto-Cad software and/or Adobe Creative suite is considered an asset
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in GIS or related field
6 or more years' experience in a GIS Analyst position or a similar role
Previous experience analyzing statistical information and public engagement techniques
Previous experience within a school division or a municipality is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
