Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Engineering this role is responsible for the execution of strategic & growth initiatives to enable engineering to advance & grow their Customer & Product base. This role will also provide direction to, and leadership of the professional engineering practices performed on behalf of the company including providing guidance and oversight on engineering practices and/or systems within AFL.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTING OUTCOMES

  • Analyzing spatial data using mapping software, primarily in ArcGIS and other Esri products.
  • Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data.
  • Designing digital maps with geographic data and other data sources.
  • Creating "shapefiles" to merge topographical data with external data by layering external data over a topographical map.
  • Producing maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, including crime statistics and hospital locations.
  • Developing mapping applications and tools.
  • Converting physical maps into a digital form for computer usage.
  • Performing data munging and cleaning to convert data into its desired form.
  • Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.
  • Managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Degree in computer science, geography, surveying, engineering or related field.
Knowledge and Experience
  • 2+ years' relevant experience ideally in Telecommunication Field
  • Proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, Visio, and Power Point
  • Knowledge in the following considered an asset: Reporter software for OTDR, FTTX, MicroStation and VMware
  • Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python.
  • Proficiency with front end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various mapping languages.
  • Experience with mapping tools such as ArcGIS/Esri, QGIS, and Carto.
  • Experience with GPS measuring tools, such as Eos Arrow Series or Trimble GNSS devices.
  • Outstanding quantitative skill set.
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Analytical mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong AutoCAD experience for preparing design files for GIS publishing, setting up seed files, and LISP scripting

Working Conditions
  • Normal office environment
  • Some travel may be required occasionally
Work Hours

40 hours/week, with general hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional weekend or longer hours may be required.
