GES 203 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems



This course offers an introduction to basic concepts and techniques of geographic information systems (GIS) used for descriptive geostatistical analysis and visualization of spatial data. Operational training in GIS is included; students should be very comfortable with Windows.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate musthold, at a minimum, a MA/MSc degree in Geography or Environmental Studies (as appropriate), or a directly related discipline such as, but not limited to: Environmental Science or Earth Sciences, and be able to demonstrate an ability to teach the course in question; Those applicants with PhDs, as well as those enrolled in a PhD program, will be given preference over those with the MA/MSc degree; have a record of effective teaching at the post-secondary level; have experience managing classroom and online technologies used by the University of Regina (including UR Courses [Moodle]).





An applicant with lower academic qualifications may be selected over an applicant with higher academic qualifications, when it is clear that the former has more professional experience in the field and/or has a demonstrably superior mastery of the subject matter of the course.

Physical Demands Pay Grade Faculty Sessional Salary Range Per URFA Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours
The instructor will deliver the course online. Instructors are expected to have one office hour per week.
Course Modality Online Course Dates and Time Online Duration (if Term/Temporary) January 1 - April 30, 2026. Sessional Lecturers may have preparatory work to do before the start date and sometimes may have to deal with grading tasks after the termination date.
