Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
Part-time academic required to teach ARBC 2100.0/RELS 2052.03: A Cultural Introduction to the Arab World, Tuesday/Thursday, 17:35-18:55, Winter Term (January 2026- April 2026). This class, taught in English, equips students with the basic tools for approaching the Arab world from a cultural perspective. It offers an overview of the Arabic Islamic and Christian cultural heritage from the Classical ages through the modern and contemporary periods, with accent on literature, myths, mentalities, arts, youth and popular culture.
The successful candidate will be fully responsible for both teaching the class content and assessing the students' progress (through in-class evaluation, marking assignments, tests, and the final exam, and granting the final grades). They will be available to students during office hours. The position is supervised by the Chair, Department of Classics with Arabic and Religious Studies.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Although the class is taught in English, the successful candidate is expected to have a good command of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Arabic Studies or a another relevant field is required. Previous experience in teaching Arabic culture at the university level (to non-native speakers) would be an asset, but not an exclusive condition.
