Geriatric Opportunity

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is recruiting a Geriatrician. The Geriatrics Program provides out-patient consultation, in-patient consult services, and a full-service Geriatric Clinic with nursing support, physiotherapy, occupational and speech-language therapy, and pharmacy. There are approximately 2000 nursing home beds and 2000 Special Care Home beds in the region. Residents of these facilities are currently looked after by the family physicians. There are opportunities to provide consultation services to these facilities.

The Moncton Hospital is a 386-bed tertiary and critical care facility within Horizon Health Network. It is a major referral hospital that serves communities throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and northern Nova Scotia. It is a Level II Trauma Centre that offers tertiary services in neurosurgery, oncology, and neonatal care and includes all other major services and subspecialties. The hospital has two state-of-the-art MIS suites as well as a new outpatient complex including an up-to-date GI/endoscopy suite, clinics, and minor OR suites.

The Moncton Hospital offers excellent opportunities for teaching and clinical research and has an academic affiliation with Dalhousie University. The hospital is one of the largest employers within metro Moncton, employing 3,000 staff and physicians.

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility
  • Inpatient consultation coverage in coordination with the other members of the division
  • No overnight on-call requirement
JOB DUTIES:

A typical weekly schedule will include:
  • Inpatient consultation coverage in coordination with other members of the division
  • Outpatient consultations (office located in the Professional Arts Building, attached to the hospital)
  • Hospital-based clinics
  • Involvement in teaching residents and medical students
REMUNERATION:

Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided. However, under special circumstances, with approval from the Department of Health of New Brunswick, a salaried model may be available. Locums receive 10% in lieu of benefits. On-call remuneration is a fee for service.

General Practitioner

This may range from a minimum of $182,936 to a maximum of $199,680 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience.

Non-certified Specialist & Certified Specialist

This may range from a minimum of $230,074 to a maximum of $279,682 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

General Practitioner

The Department of Family Medicine requires that its members have one or more of the following qualifications:
  • Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP), American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or le College des Medecins du Quebec (Medecine familiale)
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Family Physicians of Canada
  • Must be a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC)
  • Certified training in caring of the elderly (geriatric medicine preferred but may consider applicants without such training on a case-by-case basis)
  • Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick. https://www.cpsnb.org/
Non-certified Specialist & Certified Specialist

The Department of Internal Medicine requires that its active and courtesy members have passed the examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the examination of la Corporation Professionnelle des Medecins du Quebec. In circumstances where no Canadian-trained applicants are available, the Department will consider physicians with American Boards who are able to obtain licensure in the State of Maine. In special circumstances, foreign graduates who qualify for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick will be considered.

Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
