As a Geotechnical engineering student, you will have the opportunity to support the Geotechnical team who are responsible for the in-house design, analyses and surveillance of earthen structures including fluid retaining structures (dams), earth fill waste dumps, reclamation stockpiles, roads, and mine pit walls. This opportunity will allow you to gain insight into how the Oil and Gas industry operates. At Canadian Natural, “developing people” and “creating value” are part of our core values.
Key Accountabilities:

  • Collate, synthesize and perform quality control on geotechnical instrumentation data
  • Complete the daily instrument monitoring reports and escalate the concerns to EOR
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly performance monitoring reports, figures and presentations
  • Apply engineering principles to assess and solve geotechnical issues related to mine earth structures
  • Perform design calculations and modelling under the direction of an engineer
  • Manage communication with stakeholders
  • Assist engineers in producing technical deliverables, reports, and drawings (drafting and proof reading).
  • Contribute to work standards, procedures, and guidelines for the QMS.

Other Details:
  • Term length: 8 to 12 months
  • Term start: January, May or September 2023
  • Job location: Calgary, AB - Head Office, Horizon or Albian Mine operations, north of Fort McMurray, AB
  • Work schedule: Various
  • Students will be responsible for finding their own accommodations during the work term. Note, candidates may be eligible for relocation assistance pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Student Relocation Policy
  • Company sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out from Calgary or Edmonton
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor Degree program in Civil or Geological Engineering preferred
  • Highly motivated individual with good communication/networking skills
  • Geotechnical Engineering courses and projects, previous engineering experience is considered an asset
  • A pre-employment drug and alcohol test must be successfully completed
