As the civil/structural engineering student for the Oil Sands Major Projects group, your focus will be to support the engineering team with designing and constructing projects for either the Horizon or Albian oil sands sites. Take advantage of the opportunity to be a part of one of the world’s largest Oil Sands operations, work closely with seasoned engineers, and become familiar with the world of design and construction. Key Accountabilities:

  • Working with Professional Structural and Civil Engineers this position will apply engineering principles in the design and construction of oil sands facilities
  • Complete design calculations and drawings
  • Create and analyze structural finite element models
  • Create bill of materials to support cost estimates
  • Write technical reports
  • Inspect construction work on site

Other Details:
  • Term length: 8 months
  • Term start: January 2023
  • Job location: Calgary, AB Head Office
  • Work schedule: 5 x 2, 8 HR
  • Students will be responsible for finding their own accommodations during the work term. Note, candidates may be eligible for relocation assistance pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Student Relocation Policy
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor Degree Program in Civil Engineering
  • Previous engineering experience, Microsoft application, CAD, structural analysis tools (e.g. S-Frame), and proficiency in technical communication are all assets, but not mandatory for a candidate to possess
  • Required to be physically and mentally fit for work in an industrial facility
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
  • A pre-employment drug and alcohol test must successfully be completed
