The Opportunity:

WSP is looking for one Geotechnical Data Specialist.

The Geotechnical Data Specialist is a member of the Global Engineering Apps Information Management (IM) team. The Geotechnical Data Specialist will work with our IM team, groups of consultants using our Geotechnical and Chemistry IM Systems, vendors, developers, IT Team and Project Managers to evaluate, configure, manage, explain, improve, and troubleshoot efficient workflows for managing technical data from data collection through reporting. Our IM team uses a scrum-based methodology to deliver quality results in time.

A day in the life:
  • Work with project managers, IM specialists, and business groups configuring workflows, templates, reports, and sections and delivering results on a frequent cycle.
  • Work with engineering and scientific field staff to configure and rollout digital tools for tablet-based field data capture.
  • Work with technical communities of geotechnical engineers, hydrogeologists, and other engineers and scientists to configure Excel templates connected to third party SQL databases (KeyLAB, OpenGround Cloud, EQuIS, etc.).
  • Work with geotechnical and materials lab managers and vendors to create and update geotechnical lab data input and result output templates based on lab standards (including ASTM, Canadian Standards, Australian Standards) requiring complex engineering calculations and formulas.
  • Support users of IM systems with technical questions, troubleshooting, and training.
  • Create How to Guides explaining use of templates and IM systems (step-by-step guides and short videos).
  • Work with offices and regional groups to migrate existing data into enterprise IM systems.
  • Configure or work with 3rd party vendors configure borehole log templates, map templates, and other reports to display geotechnical and environmental data.
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing templates and reports.
  • Configure Power BI reports connected to third party SQL databases.
What you'll bring to WSP ...
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Hydrogeology, Information Management, Data Science or a related field
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience working as a data analyst
  • Experience creating and working with complex engineering or scientific formulas and tables in Excel
  • Experience working with technical data (Geotechnical Engineering data or Chemistry data preferred)
  • Experience or interest in working with and supporting engineers, scientists, and lab staff from different disciplines
  • Ability to learn new applications and technologies
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Other languages will be considered an asset
  • Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude
Asset:
  • Experience creating Excel templates/models/add-ins using named ranges and logic
  • Experience creating output reports (Excel, logs) connected to SQL databases
  • Experience creating and managing PowerBI reports
  • Experience with Bentley's OpenGround Cloud and KeyLAB
  • Experience with EarthSoft's EQuIS and EQuIS Collect
  • Project Management and SCRUM/Agile Certifications
