About Us

The Geoscience and Mines Branch of the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables manages the responsible development of the Province\'s mineral resource assets along with scientific support of public health and safety through regional mapping, water resource, and hazard mapping programs. Within the Branch, the Geological Survey Division includes a team of expert geoscientists who are responsible for delivering high quality, timely geoscience data, information, services, and support to a wide range of stakeholders, including all levels of government, industry, academia, and the public.

About Our Opportunity

The Geological Survey Division requires Geoscience Assistants to work with staff on geoscience projects throughout Nova Scotia this summer. Projects include bedrock and surficial geological mapping, environmental geology, mineral inventory and metallogenic studies, geochemistry, and geographic information systems/geological database compilation. Positions are based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

About You

We are looking for candidates who are have completed at least their second year of study, be registered in a Geoscience (or equivalent) program, and returning to school as a full-time student in a Geoscience (or equivalent) program in the fall 2023.

The Geoscience Assistant positions are field-oriented; therefore, successful candidates must be interested in undertaking work of a physical nature and be open to learning new field skills. Candidates must have a valid driver\'s license to fulfill occupational health and safety requirements. Further safety training will be provided before field work commences.

We are looking for candidates who have good oral and written communication skills, are self-starting and can work in a team-oriented environment, sometimes with minimal supervision. Computer literacy and a demonstrated ability to acquire new computer and/or field skills are assets.

Pay Grade: HOURLY

Salary Range: $14.90 - $28.12 Bi-Weekly
