De Beers Group has an opportunity for an energetic, self-motivated individual for a temporary one (1) year contract opportunity for an individual to join the Technical Services Department at the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine Site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent and working a two (2) week in / two (2) week out rotation. This position is to provide geologic services to the mine and promote the efficient recovery of mineral resources at the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine. The role is well suited to one who has a keen eye for continuous improvement opportunities, is analytical, can quickly build relationships with the mine operations team, and who is committed to safe work practices, while striving for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:

Geological Technician duties include but are not limited to:

  • Promote, support and implement sound safety, health, and environmental management practices in line with legislation and mine policies and procedures;
  • Develop knowledge and apply local geology of both the ore body and the surrounding environment;
  • Logging blastholes and creating facemaps in order to assess ore quality and provide direction to mine operations;
  • Responsible for maintaining geological databases;
  • Conduct a variety of sampling activities at the mine;
  • Collect, prepare, analyse and interpret the results of waste rock within the acid rock drainage (ARD) program;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and attend relevant meetings to provide technical support and input for operations;
  • Update and maintain relevant geologic procedures; and
  • Provide geological support to Mining Operations, Process Plant and the Environmental team.
This is a site-based position with two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks out rotation.

Qualifications
  • University degree or equivalent in geology or earth science;
  • Eligible for Professional designation (P.GEO);
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant experience;
  • Logical thinking and ability to bring practical solutions to field challenges;
  • Strong geology technical skills with sound geology principles;
  • Geological Modelling skills a bonus;
  • Flexible, adaptable to change and capable of decision making under uncertainty;
  • Ability to manage multiple complex technical work streams;
  • Comfortable in the operational environment;
  • Excellent time management; and
  • Enjoy the outdoors in all weather conditions.
Please note:

Preference will be given to Members of the Deninu Ku\xc3\xa9, Lutsel K\'e Dene First Nation, North Slave M\xc3\xa9tis Alliance, Northwest Territory M\xc3\xa9tis Nation, Tlicho Government, or Yellowknives Dene First Nation, followed by non-indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories or a resident of the Northwest Territories.
