About Our Opportunity

Under the general direction of the Manager of Geomatics Partnerships and Policy, the Geomatics Analyst will play a supporting role in the development of policies, standards, program definition, processes, as well as partnership and stakeholder relationship. They will also lead and provide support on projects and initiative that advance the use of geomatics across government.

Primary Accountabilities

The Geomatics Analyst is responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate and participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of geomatics processes, policies, and standards.
  • Support the development and release of communications. Working collaboratively with management, stakeholders, and Communications Nova Scotia.
  • Act as a liaison for clients and stakeholders; developing awareness of programs and services offered by GeoNOVA and identifying new opportunities or areas for improvement.
  • Provides support to clients and stakeholders on geomatics related initiatives.
  • Work as a key member of the team to plan and host two annual conferences for the geomatics community.
  • Participate in and lead interdepartmental working groups and stakeholder engagement workshops.
  • Contribute to tenders, proposal evaluations and awarding project contracts.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of geomatics and stay abreast of trends and developments through research, training courses, meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have one of the following education /professional experience levels: Bachelor's degree in a relevant Geomatics field plus five (5) years related experience or graduation from an approved technical school in the field of geomatics plus eight (8) years related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
  • In depth knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including products, technology, and related principals.
  • Possess strong presentation and communication skills (auditory, verbal and written). This is critical to articulate and relay complex problems and technical information to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience with and a proven track record in effectively engaging and building partnerships with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Experience with business analysis including analyzing and defining business problems and requirements.
  • Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within tight timeframes.
  • You will be able to work cohesively in a team and independently.
  • Lastly, the ability and desire to forge strong relationships of trust and collaboration across all levels of governments.
The following will be considered an asset:
  • Knowledge of structure, processes, and key players in Government Geomatics teams.
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with metadata (particularly ISO 191** suite of geospatial metadata standards)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 suite such as SharePoint, PowerPoint, Teams, Visio, Planner, Power Automate, List, Outlook, Word and Excel.

Working Conditions
  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,469.30 - $3,001.65 Bi-Weekly
