Genomic Research Scientist

Job Description


Reporting to the Director of Preclinical and Clinical Research, the Genomic Research Scientist will participate in research projects using and developing innovative genomic tools and approaches for the application of Lallemand Health Solutions Inc.\'s portfolio of probiotics.

Responsibilities
\xe2\x96\xaa Oversee experimental plans and technical roadmaps for the characterization of probiotics (current LHS pipeline and next-generation probiotics);
\xe2\x96\xaa Generate genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and metagenomic information on LHS probiotics for preclinical and clinical research by using internal and external platforms;
\xe2\x96\xaa Perform genomic annotations using whole Genome Sequencing. Ensure these data are up to date according to the latest technologies;
\xe2\x96\xaa Interact within the R&D teams as well as the different departments of the business unit;
\xe2\x96\xaa Maintain accurate complete and up-to-date notes on experimental details and results using electronic laboratory notebooks and a data management system (LIMS);
\xe2\x96\xaa Help and provide expertise for the preparation of data for publications and/or internal and external presentations;
\xe2\x96\xaa Write technical reports of the projects within the given deadlines;
\xe2\x96\xaa Contribute to develop collaborations within the Canadian scientific community and, if necessary, internationally (universities and other research partners);
\xe2\x96\xaa Comply with the safety standards and procedures in the laboratories;
\xe2\x96\xaa Assist in general laboratory maintenance;
\xe2\x96\xaa Participate in all other related tasks.

Requirements
\xe2\x96\xaa Holds a master\'s degree in life sciences or molecular biology or related field;
\xe2\x96\xaa Technical knowledge in microbiology and molecular biology such as: bacterial cultures, flow cytometry, PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid purification and sequencing;
\xe2\x96\xaa Experience in high throughput sequencing (next generation sequencing) and in silico gene screening (BLAST research method), and in de novo genome assembly techniques and annotation tools (e.g. RAST, BV -BRC, Busco gene scan);
\xe2\x96\xaa Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP),
\xe2\x96\xaa Work experience in a level 2 containment laboratory (an asset);
\xe2\x96\xaa Strong interpersonal skills are required to work within a multidisciplinary team,
\xe2\x96\xaa Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English, in order to be able to present and discuss results internally and externally (congresses, publications),
\xe2\x96\xaa Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Work conditions
\xe2\x96\xaa Work location: 6100 Royalmount Avenue, Montreal (Quebec) H4P 2R2;
\xe2\x96\xaa Work schedule of 37.5 hours; from Monday to Friday;
\xe2\x96\xaa Partial remote working;
\xe2\x96\xaa Salary based on experience;
\xe2\x96\xaa Group Insurance Plan and Registered Pension Plan.
