Summary:







The

General Superintendent

is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of all major municipal projects awarded to Clearway Construction. An integral part of each project starting from the preconstruction stage to final completion. The role is mainly focused on going to sites and supporting the crews, ensure proper resource and equipment/shoring allocations, improving productions and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.





The General Superintendent will report directly to the Vice President, Construction.

Location:

Various Clearway Construction Job Sites within the Greater Vancouver Area. This role will require occasional visits to our Regional Office - Surrey, BC.


Please note that this role may also require visits to the Ontario office for training.




Hours of Operation:

7:00 am to 5:00 pm




Essential Duties & Responsibilities:






Supervise, mentor, teach and guide field staff such as all unionized/non-unionized Labourers, Operators, Foreman etc. Working alongside the Construction Manager in assisting and supporting of the Construction Site Superintendents and Project Coordinators with construction of all projects in strict accordance with the contract documents and industry best practices. Ensure verification of safety compliance with all labour forces including subcontractors. Ensure all daily reports including: daily journals, equipment inspections, Health and Safety documentation and maintenance records are completed by the Foreman, Operators and Labourers. Enforce all project safety and quality-control policies with the field staff. Prepare and organize labour resource allocation for all unionized workers that are direct reports (Labourers, Operators, Welders, Lane Technicians, Foremen and any other field role, etc). Provide training and mentoring of all site personnel. Meet with unions, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors and research the best products in the market to keep in line with the competition. Plan all heavy equipment and shoring with the construction team. Review and analyze daily heavy equipment and shoring needs including any change requests from the Construction Site Superintendent and or Foreman. Send follow up email communication to the Construction Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator and Project Manager regarding any equipment changes and/or scheduled deliveries. Analyze current equipment/shoring inventory and based on utilization identify future equipment needs. Advise, assist and support Project Coordinators and Construction Site Superintendents in day-to-day coordination of construction crews, owned equipment, rented equipment, material supply and subcontractors, including maintenance of satisfactory relationships with owners, subcontractors, unions, etc.. Daily Tracking and allocation of resources and equipment. Assist with coordination of purchasing, ordering and delivery of all construction related materials. Lead on logistics and scheduling of all Heavy equipment and shoring. Assist with planning of shoring design and engineering, if applicable. Complete constructability review and engineering consultation. Review technical drawings to ensure accuracy and constructability. Review and asses target productions on a regular basis or as needed to ensure attainability. Advise and consult with project teams for subcontractor and supplier selection. Communicate all coordination through the project team (Construction Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator, Project Manager). Build relationships with the Local Labour Unions and the Operating Engineers Unions (1611 and 115). Review and follow all the union agreements and keep up to date with any changes. Review resource requests from field management personnel. Actively seek for workers, structuring, and maintaining the team. Assess the job tasks and requirements, in conjunction with the Construction Site Superintendent and Foremen (e.g., Site Walks). Ensure regular communication is maintained between their forces and all field management personnel (e.g. Construction Site Superintendent, Foreman, Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Fleet etc.). Analyze specifications and construction drawings and complete/participate in completing construction plan and construction schedule prior to mobilization to project site. Monitor project site, to ensure compliance with owner's standards, design procedures, contract specifications and industry best practices. Research solutions with project teams and senior management to recommend solutions to design problems, including conflicts, unidentified existing interferences and errors/omissions. Plan and implement schedules with project team to determine crew/manpower levels and ensure proper equipment and resources are available as required for the project. Supervise crews and fill in where possible based on needs. Attend and lead project meetings with internal and external parties to monitor and support the project (Pre-Con, Resource Meeting, Estimating Handovers, etc.). Site visits may be required by estimating team as needed for reviewing new and upcoming projects. Advise Foremen, Project Managers, Construction Site Superintendents and Project Coordinators of potential problems, work interferences and schedule difficulties and assist in resolving these problems. Review up-to-date cost reports and determine solutions to increasing efficiencies across operations and health and safety. Attend the yard in Maple Ridge from time to time to check inventory and ensure remains organized at all times. Complete additional assignments and responsibilities as requested by the Vice President, Construction and/or Senior Management.

Requirements:





Engineering Degree (Civil Engineering preferred), or Construction Management Degree and civil experience 5+ years of civil construction experience A passion for construction Valid British Columbia Drivers License Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Knowledge and use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Proficient in the English language (written and oral) with strong inter-personal and communication skills Perceptive listening skills. Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Effective time management and organizational skills. Adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing. Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment. Negotiation and conflict management. Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills. Salary Range: $175,000 - $225,000 (CAD)
