Job Description

Overview of the position As the General Manager, you will lead the development, delivery and execution of the organization's mission and strategic plan. This includes ensuring the successful delivery of WVFHC's programs and services, and managing the organization's human, financial and operational resources. The GM reports to and works closely with the Board of Directors, collaborates with the Technical Director and oversees the Club Administrator and Social Media Coordinator. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role. About the Club The West Vancouver Field Hockey Club (WVFHC) is the home of field hockey on the North Shore and the largest field hockey club in North America, with approximately 1,500 members of all ages and levels. Our mission is to provide opportunities for everyone in our community to develop lifelong skills as players, coaches, and umpires in an atmosphere that fosters enjoyment, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal excellence. Our home field, the world-class Rutledge Field at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, was installed thanks to a club fundraising initiative. We are a leading sports organization recognized across BC and beyond for our innovation, community spirit, and commitment to program excellence.

Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership ? Lead key club projects, including the Growth Plan, facilities, capital initiatives, and program priorities. ? Identify and inform the Board of external issues affecting WVFHC. ? Represent the club as spokesperson and ambassador in the community. ? Work with the Board to develop, implement, and report on WVFHC's strategic plan. 2. Operations and Planning ? Oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of all programs, services, and special projects. ? Ensure initiatives are delivered on time and within budget. ? Develop annual operational plans aligned with strategic goals.

3. People Management ? Support and supervise staff to ensure strong performance and alignment with club goals. ? Maintain effective HR policies and performance management processes. ? Determine staffing needs and oversee recruitment and training. ? Collaborate with volunteer committees to engage and manage a volunteer base of over 200 individuals.

4. Financial Planning, Risk, and Governance ? In partnership with the Treasurer, prepare and manage the annual budget. ? Conduct detailed general reviews to ensure correct budget coding and spend allocations

Monitor financial performance and ensure responsible use of funds. ? Pursue grants, sponsorships, and external funding opportunities. ? Identify and manage organizational risks and develop contingency plans. ? Support the President and Board with meeting agendas, reports, and policy updates. ? 5. Communications, Marketing, and Events ? Oversee communications and marketing to promote WVFHC's programs and community presence. ? Work with the Board and the Social Media Coordinator on Marketing to ensure clear, consistent messaging. ? Support the planning and execution of events--from local community gatherings to large international tournaments. ? Collaborate with the Social Committee to deliver activities that strengthen club culture. 6. Stakeholder and Partner Relations ? Serve as the main point of contact for staff, volunteers, parents, and external organizations. ? Build and maintain strong relationships within the sport and community sectors, including the District of West Vancouver. ? Represent WVFHC on partner and stakeholder committees. ? Promote collaboration across clubs, sports, and local organizations.

Candidate Profile Experience & Education ? Proven leadership and management experience, ideally in a community or non-profit organization of similar size (700k budget) ? Sport leadership and program management experience an asset. ? Degree or diploma in business, sport management, or recreation-related field preferred. ? Experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors. Skills & Abilities ? Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all members, parents, volunteers, staff, and partners. ? Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. ? Strong operational planning and strategic execution abilities. ? Solid financial management and budgeting experience. ? Knowledge of HR practices, particularly in volunteer-based organizations. ? Strong governance and board relations experience. ? Proven ability to build relationships and engage members. ? Fundraising and sponsorship experience an asset. ? Event planning and delivery experience an asset. ? Strong computer skills and ability to use and learn new software tools including SportEngine or similar.

Compensation and Working Conditions ? Starting salary of $64,000/year for 30 hours/week. Opportunity for growth. ? 30 hours/week, with flexibility around schedule and work location (hybrid role based on the North Shore). ? Some early morning, evening, or weekend work is required for meetings or events. ? Busiest months: February-June; reduced workload opportunities in July-August and mid-November-early January to balance annual hours. ? Must be able to attend meetings at Rutledge Field and other North Shore or Lower Mainland locations as needed. ? A BC Criminal Record Check is required. ? Performance reviews will take place at 2 months, 6 months, and annually thereafter.
