PURPOSE
:
The General Manager ("
GM
") leads all aspects of Thermogenics' business operations for the Ottawa Business Unit. The GM will maintain a strong emphasis on the management and development of people, the selling of Parts & Service. The GM will provide leadership to all personnel in the Business Unit ensuring the existing customer base and employees are retained, new customers are acquired, and Thermogenics' product and services are effectively sold throughout the area. The GM is an experienced leader with a proven track record of gaining credibility from their team and customers, driving process improvement and results within a boiler parts, service, and rentals operational setting.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
The GM is responsible for driving sales, growth and managing a team of senior service technicians within a customer focused boiler, parts, service, and rentals environment. Working through their team and in collaboration with Thermogenics' New Equipment Sales, Human Resources and Finance, the GM is responsible for maintaining a safety first culture, fostering employee engagement and satisfaction, meeting financial and operating objectives, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction, and driving profitable growth and expansion in the region. To accomplish this, they:
Reinforce a safety first mindset and ensure regulatory compliance.
Monitor staff performance, oversee employee goal and objective setting. Conduct mid-year and year end performance reviews. Assist staff in overcoming obstacles to accomplishment of work objectives.
Drive initiatives and a culture that delivers field service quality, Service Technician engagement, sales, and gross margins.
Focus on the retention and development of customers and employees in the region. Working with the Director Technical Services, trains service technicians in coiled tube boiler maintenance, service, and new unit (Thermogenics) quotation support.
Determine staffing requirements, hire and train new staff in support of the annually approved operating plan and the overarching strategic growth plan.
Continuously engage with customers in order to prospect, advance, and close new business as well as grow the number of clients for both Parts & Service and new Thermogenics boilers. Meet or exceed sales targets for Parts & Service, Rentals, and new Boiler sales.
Continuously evaluate current business processes and systems for improvement opportunities. Ensure appropriate KPI's are in place and that they are aligned with employee goals and objectives.
Review operational performance data (e.g., safety, quality, quotation backlog, order activity, order fulfillment against customer commitment) in order to monitor and measure productivity, goal progress, and work activity.
Participate in Thermogenics' monthly performance operating rhythm and prepare to provide variance analysis for the region as well as gap closure remedies relating to operational and financial measures.
Meet annual operational and financial goals and objectives for the Business Unit.
Other duties as assigned by the Regional General Manager - Canada East.
Qualifications & Experience
Bilingual (English/French) required to effectively engage with customers and employees in the Ottawa region.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Engineering, or related discipline; MBA or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of the boiler, HVAC, or industrial services sector, including applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
Minimum 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience managing technical service teams or business operations in an industrial or service-based environment.
Proven ability to drive revenue growth through parts & service sales, customer acquisition, and retention strategies.
Demonstrated success in managing P&L responsibility, setting and achieving operational/financial targets, and implementing KPI-driven performance management.
Skilled in hiring, developing, and retaining technical and service personnel; able to foster employee engagement and a safety-first culture.
Strong track record of building and maintaining client relationships, delivering service excellence, and resolving customer issues.
Experience leading organizational change initiatives, improving business processes, and introducing best practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/CRM systems; experience with IFS or ADP is an asset. Strong financial acumen, negotiation, and communication skills.
