Lake Chaparral Residents Association (LCRA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining and enhancing a vibrant, family-friendly lake community in southeast Calgary. We serve 2,958 homes through year-round recreation, events, and amenities across a 33-acre lake, 20-acre park, and multiple satellite sites.
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced
General Manager
to lead our organization with strategic vision, operational excellence, and community focus. Reporting to a governance-based Board of Directors, the GM oversees all aspects of facility operations, staff leadership, financial management, and community engagement. This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role ideal for a motivated nonprofit, recreation, or facility management professional ready to make a meaningful difference.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
Serve as the executive leader of the Association, guiding strategic priorities and ensuring alignment with LCRA's mission and vision.
Act as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, delivering regular reports, financial updates, policy recommendations, and strategic insights.
Foster a high-performing, empowered staff culture across all departments.
Team & HR Management
Lead, support, and develop a team of ~25 staff across Maintenance, Landscaping, Administration, and services such as Concession.
Oversee all HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance reviews, investigations, and progressive discipline.
Ensure compliance with Alberta Employment Standards and LCRA's HR policies.
Operations & Facilities
Oversee operations across the lake, park, rental spaces, and satellite amenities.
Plan and execute seasonal and long-term capital projects, infrastructure upgrades, and facility maintenance.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and municipal regulations.
Finance & Administration
Manage a $1.2M annual operating budget and capital reserves.
Perform bookkeeping and financial reporting in QuickBooks Online.
Coordinate audits, insurance renewals, grant submissions, and government remittances.
Maintain accurate records for accounts payable, receivable, and encumbrance fees.
Community Programming & Engagement
Lead the planning and delivery of seasonal programs and large-scale events for up to 2,500 attendees.
Strengthen relationships with residents, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners.
Secure grants and sponsorships to support programming and capital improvements.
Communications & Marketing
Oversee all internal and external communications including newsletters, social media, branding, and website content.
Ensure clear, timely, and consistent messaging to members and the public.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in business, nonprofit management, recreation, communications, or related field if preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in leadership, nonprofit, or facility management roles.
Proven experience managing budgets, staff teams, and operational planning.
Strong working knowledge of HR practices, bookkeeping, and governance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Online, and modern communication tools.
Valid Alberta driver's license and clean criminal record (including vulnerable sector check).
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
