Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to oversee the operations of our establishment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality, food service, and staff management and Retirement Living/Long Term Care Management.

General Manager ("GM")



The GM is responsible for the security, wellbeing and dignity of the residents, as well as their health, comfort and enjoyment of the home - like environment. The GM manages the human, physical and financial resources of the Residence in accordance with the expectations of the organization and complies with all regulations and achieves optimal operational and financial success.

The GM oversees all operations through all departments, to ensure that it consistently meets or exceeds the organizational expectations for a successful and profitable operation.

The GM provides the needed leadership, guidance, mentorship, motivation and development opportunities to ensure the goals of the Residence, as well as those of the staff's personal growth, while developing pride and excellence in service to residents.

The GM acts as community and public resource in promotion of the Residence and all matters related to public relations domain.

Functions



1. Administers, directs, and coordinates all activities of the residence, in accordance with the expectations of the organization, including management of human resources, physical plant, and financial resources.

2. Manages in accordance with all regulatory compliance agencies. Ensures compliance with Ontario Retirement Homes Act 2010, O. Reg 166/11, Residential Tenancies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and other pertinent legislated regulations/standards.

3. Responsible for overall compliance with the Company's policies and processes.

4. Ensures that the Residence's operational policies and programs ensure appropriate levels of services, care and comfort for residents and promote the philosophy of the Residence to ensure quality of life for the residents. Responds to all resident/family concerns or suggestions including those raised by Resident Council/Town hall meetings.

5. Reports to the Corporation on the operational and financial success of the residence operations including receivables, payables, cost control, WSIB, and fiscal performance.

6. Responsible for the overall financial performance of the Company and promotes accountability at the departmental level. Participates in the preparation of the operating budget and monitors financial performance to budget.

7. Maintains active and positive relationships with professionals and community organizations to best represent the high standards of residence.

8. Provides leadership, training and support to staff, volunteers, and managers to ensure that the residence achieves its stated goals and potential.

9. Maintains a working relationship with the unions and participates in the collective bargaining process. (if required)

10. Evaluates staff performance to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and addresses any performance issues identified.

11. Participates in all conferences and instructional courses as required.

12. Submits regular reports as needed in a professional manner.

13. Participates in Best Practice initiatives and supports Corporate Office strategic goals and multi-site coordination.

14. Responsible for Risk Management within the residence.

15. Responsible for managing and maintaining occupancy targets, financial targets and meeting company expectations.

16. Other duties as required or assigned.

Working Conditions



Must be able to deal effectively with administrative duties (i.e., completion of required reports and documentation, keyboarding). Demonstrated ability to deal with constant mental stress associated with performance of work in the service sector including multiple interruptions, timelines, deadlines and interaction with residents, staff and the public.

Responsibilities to Health and Safety/Regulatory

1. Is a competent person as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety.

2.. Strong understanding of Retirement home operations in the province of Ontario, including RHRA, ORCA, Ministry and Government requirements and legislation.

3. Is aware of supervisor's responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in the employee safety program hand book and departmental manuals.

4. Monitors adherence to safety policies and procedures of subordinates and promotes safe work practices for self and others.

5. Is alert to and acts on all actual or potentially hazardous.

6. Ensures that all reported injuries/illnesses are treated promptly and documented according to policy and that transportation for treatment of critical injury is arranged.

7. Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the Residence's fire and disaster plan.

8. Regulatory training requirements including Code training, ERP planning and preparations.

Qualifications:



Certificate in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or equivalent experience. A minimum of five (5) years senior management experience in the hospitality field or retirement community. Experience in a residential/congregate living setting, with experience in gerontology would be an asset. Ability to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends are required).

Pay: $85,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
