Position Summary:
The incumbent prepares accounting reports and analysis used in management decision making as required by senior management. They are responsible for the reconciliation of College's Operating bank account suggesting and related journal entries. They perform cash flow management activities and prepare cash flow forecast financial model to determine the short and long term cash requirements. They liaise with Daycare Supervisors and Third-party Fees Collector. They assist Sr. Manager in the preparation of notes to the College's year-end financial statements. They prepare year end projects financial statements for Daycare, LBS, CERF, FRP and other special funded programs and is a key resource person for program managers and external auditors on related project queries.
Key Responsibilities:
Reconciles the Operating Bank Account and improve cash flow management.
Develops cash flow forecast financial model to determine the short- and long-term cash requirements and prepare cashflow reports regularly.
Ensures that all bank transactions are recorded on a timely basis and ensures daily reconciliation of the Operating Account.
Liaises with internal and external personnel to resolve outstanding transactions.
Recognizes the capital and special projects monthly revenues.
Advance knowledge of harmonized sales tax to ensure completeness and accuracy of HST balances and prepare analysis.
Prepares monthly provincial and federal HST return and submits to CRA on a timely basis.
Provides accounting-related knowledge and expertise to college staff.
Prepares Charity Return for the college and submit to CRA.
Prepares draft financial statement of external projects, prepare revenue/expense schedule and provides analysis on variances as required by auditors.
Coordinates with external auditors and department for the completion of the project's audit.
Prepares general ledger analysis, reports and investigate variances for management.
Processes bi-weekly payroll interface to Banner Finance and reconciles payroll liability accounts.
Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Four-year degree/Three-year degree/diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Accounting and/or Finance.
Senior level enrolment of a recognized accounting designation (i.e. CPA-CGA or CPA-CMA).
Minimum five (5) years experience with computerized accounting system with specific experience performing high volume bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
Skills and Attributes:
Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including analyzing and developing Excel spreadsheets.
Demonstrated proficiency and in depth understanding of Banner Finance; understanding of College's year-end processes and accounting procedures.
Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills to deal with students, staff, external stakeholders, department heads or budget holders/managers.
Ability to provide guidance and training to others (i.e., Financial Services staff).
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to cope under pressure associated with the management of numerous high-volume tasks in a busy service environment; high level of analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
Combination of written and verbal communication skills and strong numerical abilities.
Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.
