Acorn Family Place (AFP) (formerly Wolseley Family Place) is a non-profit, community-based family resource centre providing support, enhancing education, and fostering community. We work together to strengthen children and families on the challenging journey of living and growing.
The Fundraiser and Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement fund development strategies, build the organization's financial sustainability and to help raise our community profile through Communications (Social Media, Website, Newsletter).
Hours : 37.5 hours/week, primarily within the operating hours of 9:00-5:00, Monday to Friday, some flexibility with limited evenings or weekends
Compensation : Salary range of $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus 6% vacation, and benefits including group disability, life insurance, pension, EAP, health and dental package
Location: Work in-person on location at 222 Furby Street, with the ability to move to working from home for one day a week after orientation is completed.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fundraiser and Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing fund development activities to build an ongoing giving program that strengthens the sustainability of the organization. A fundraising strategy, including annual fund development goals and targets, as well as a capital campaign plan, will be developed and implemented.
This role will be responsible for managing all aspects of the donor development cycle and stewardship of donors and prospects. With a goal of ensuring strategic engagement with donors who have a passion for Acorn Family Place's mission, the incumbent will maximize revenue to support organizational priorities. This position prioritizes relationship-building through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of a robust portfolio of donors and prospects in support of Acorn Family Place.
The position of Fundraiser and Communications Coordinator includes grant prospecting, application preparation, and submission, and the development and management of strong community relation initiatives, key fund development messages and strategies, as well as ensuring a positive community presence.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Develop an ongoing fundraising strategy which will allow AFP to be financially sustainable over the next 5-10 years.
• Make strategic recommendations to senior leadership regarding fund development.
• Build from Acorn Family Place's previous work to further develop a capital campaign plan
• Create and enhance fund development systems and tools including a case for support, donor management system, campaign messaging and materials, donor recognition program, prospect research
• Work to raise AFP's profile in the broader community through Social Media, updating our Website and creating our monthly newsletter.
• Take the lead in developing, updating, and implementing an AFP Communications Plan
• Maintain, update, and follow the AFP Communications and Social Media Guidelines
• Develop an annual communications work plan with measurable goals and report quarterly on progress towards those goals
• Initiate, cultivate, and maintain positive, meaningful, engaged relationships with donors and prospective donors - direct hands-on involvement in fundraising programs and activities.
• Research relevant grant funding opportunities and prepare application materials
• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate fundraising events and activities ranging from individualized meetings to larger public events
• Participate in centre-wide activities and celebrations, building internal relationships and familiarity with the organization's operations, values, and strengths
• Maintain AFP's social media presence, including creating original posts, posting material on behalf of other staff, and sharing external content, in keeping with AFP Communication and Social Media Guidelines
• Manage AFP's website, in consultation with the Executive Director and other staff, to keep it up-to-date, relevant and accessible to various audiences
• Create and update AFP promotional material including brochures, posters, displays, business cards, and signage, in keeping with AFP branding
Qualifications:
• Relevant post-secondary education or related business experience in communications, marketing, public relations or fundraising.
• Minimum 2 years of professional fundraising and/or communications experience
• Experience and demonstrated success in developing fund development plans, writing grant proposals, and conducting research
• Strong, engaging interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - tailoring appropriate messages to diverse audiences. Fluency in English a requirement.
• Excellent organizational skills, an ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• Existing relationships and networks within the philanthropic community an asset
• Creativity and resourcefulness - an ability to identify unique strengths and develop innovative strategies to leverage those strengths
• Understanding of Acorn Family Place's mission and alignment with organizational priorities and values essential. Familiarity with the local context an asset.
• A high degree of professionalism, discretion, integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
• Enthusiasm, problem-solving, and ability to get things done efficiently and on schedule.
• Collaborative approach, the ability to work well with a diverse, interdisciplinary team.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite a requirement. A familiarity with other tools such as donor management tools, Adobe programs, social media, web design, etc. an asset.
