The Open Doors has been a cornerstone of support for youth, families, and vulnerable individuals across Central Alberta for over 25 years. We offer a wide range of trauma-informed, community-based services that address basic needs, mental health, justice prevention, peer support, and workforce development. As we expand and deepen our community impact, we are seeking our first dedicated

Fund Development Specialist

to build and lead our fundraising efforts.

About the Role



The Fund Development Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a diverse range of fund development activities to ensure the financial sustainability of The Open Doors. This role combines strategic planning, relationship-building, grant writing, and campaign coordination. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working collaboratively with the Director of Business and Finance, this is a unique opportunity to shape the future of fundraising within the organization.

Key Responsibilities



Develop and execute an annual fund development plan Identify and pursue funding from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government Write and submit grant proposals and reports Track grant deadlines and reporting requirements Cultivate and steward donor relationships Manage donor recognition and acknowledgments Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors. Manage donor recognition activities and ensure timely acknowledgment. Build monthly and legacy giving programs Engage corporate sponsors and partners Maintain accurate donor and funder records in CRM/Database Process donations and issue charitable tax receipts Generate donor reports for leadership Contribute to donor communications (newsletters, impact stories, social media) Organize fundraising campaigns and events Represent The Open Doors at community and networking events

Qualifications & Skills



Required:

Post-secondary education in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2-4 years of relevant fundraising, development, or grant writing experience. Exceptional writing and communication skills. Strong relationship-building and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred:

CFRE designation or equivalent fundraising experience Experience with donor management systems or CRMs (e.g., Sumac, DonorPerfect, Salesforce). Knowledge of the Central Alberta nonprofit landscape.
Other Requirements:

Valid Alberta Driver's License and access to reliable transportation. Flexibility to work occasional evenings/weekends for events or meetings. Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check.
